Public League

Quarterfinals
Frankford 39, Bartram 0
The Pioneers tied a school record with their seventh shutout (also 1933,
'41) in just eight games while limiting the Braves to 43 yards total offense.
Andre Mungin had an interception. Arnold Mullins turned half of his six
carries into TDs, along with 88 yards. Lamont Brown passed 4-for-7 for
120 yards and two scores to Michael Washington (2-110).
Central 15, King 8
Marcel Quarterman rushed 13 times for 72 yards, made two interceptions
and passed 5-for-13 for 89 yards and one TD apiece to Jordan Anderson
and Rodney Sykes. Sykes iced the win with a late-game pick. Quindel
"Milky" Ladson made 15 tackles and Cornelius Bunch had two tackles for
losses. Jared Williams ran for King's TD while Sammy Tranks ran nine
times for 63 yards and posted an interception.
Dobbins 22, Mastbaum 21 (OT)
Reserve quarterback Steve Sydnor rallied the Mustangs from a 14-6 deficit
with TD and conversion runs in regulation. In OT, Mastbaum went first and
received a 2-yard TD run from Jadrien "J.J." Reynolds and PAT from David
Pough. Sydnor immediately hit Nate Gravely with a 10-yard scoring pass and
fullback Greg Myers (14 tackles) ran for two on an option to end it. Sydnor
was intending to pull the ball from Myers' belly. Myers wouldn't let that happen.
Washington 21, Bok 6
Jerry Butler ran 13 times for 132 yards and two TDs as the Eagles finally
dented Bok's defense, which had recorded a school-record four consecutive
shutouts. Zimier McCloud had nine solos among 12 tackles (two for losses)
while Ricardo Rivera and Brandon Sanders made interceptions. Bok QB Allen
Major ran 15 times for 78 yards.
Semifinals
Doubleheader at Northeast
Frankford 48, Central 24
Though the Pioneers boasted a school record seven shutouts in eight games,
they were scorched for 24 points in the first 29 minutes. They then regrouped
and won going away. The rushing was paced by Arnold Mullins (19-176, TD),
Jeremy Benson (19-90, two) and soph Brandon Norris (4-52, two), and Lamont
Brown passed 11-for-15 for 121 yards and a score to Michael Washington (5-50).
Washington made 11 solo tackles. For Central, junior Joe Marshall made his first
start at QB in place of the injured Marcel Quarterman and was nothing short of
sensational. He passed 9-for-13 for 191 yards and two TDs to Jordan Anderson
(4-120) and rushed 16 times for 66 yards (257 total offense). Quindel "Milky"
Ladson ran 50 yards for a TD and made 17 tackles.
Washington 21, Dobbins 14
After Chuck Hughes (also two interceptions) recovered a fumble with 1:22
remaining, Jerry Butler ran 23 yards for a TD at 0:37 to give the Eagles a stirring
victory. They were trailing, 14-13. Butler finished with 22 carries for 230 yards
and two scores and Rich McFillin threw a 35-yard scoring pass to Jeremiah Pitt.
For Dobbins, Ariel Simmons collected an interception and fumble recovery, tackled
Butler at the 1 late in the first half to prevent a TD, and caught a TD pass from
Maurice Whitaker. Rashad "Reds" Williams scampered 60 yards for a score.
Final
At Northeast
Frankford 12, Washington 0
The Pioneers (11-0) sent coach Tom Mullineaux into expected retirement
by giving him a second consecutive title (four total) and extending their
winning streak to 20 games. Also, they set a school record with their eighth
shutout. Jeremy Benson (16-84) and Arnold Mullins (13-67) ran for one TD
apiece while soph Brandon Norris added 80 yards on eight carries. Ervin
Hook picked up a blocked punt and ran for first-down yardage, setting up
Mullins' score. He also had an interception at the 10 to preserve the
shutout. Andre Mungin also had a pick. Isaiah "Zeke" Thompson posted
two sacks and Ray Williams recovered a fumble. For Washington, junior
Jerry Butler (15-37) lifted his season rushing total to a school record 1,247.
This game was postponed by snow, from a Saturday to the following
Wednesday night, and was played in the rain on a surface that was muddy
even beforehand.
