Amauro Austin is another of our trusty observers. He is not to be confused with Ruben
Amaro, the Phillies' assistant general manager. Like "Huck"
Palmer, Amauro is a West Catholic graduate. He maintains a constant presence on
the hoops trail. |
NOTE: Some of these comments have not changed since earlier, if there
was no pressing reason to change them.
PG's
1. Raheem Scott 6-2 King (Sonny Hill) - this lefty is strong and smart. He bullies smaller guards and is strong enough to mix it up with bigger guards. He is getting widespread Low to Mid 1 interest.
2. Shejdie Childs 5-10 Friends Central (Phila. Phoenix) - He's getting interest from Monmouth, Howard, Hampton and UNCG. (qualified SAT: )
3. Sharif Bray 6-2 Central (Phila. Phoenix/Positive Image) I feel he is being underrecruited, has made vast improvement in the past year, should be getting sustained Low 1 interest. He is receiving attention from the State Schools and Low 1's. (qualified SAT: 1070)
4. Mike Spadafora 6-3 Archbishop Wood (Sam Rines)- this unorthodox lefty combo seems to will things to happen. He's a tough guard for defenders. He also sticks the 3, Low 1/Good D2. (qualified SAT: 1300)
5. David Watson 6-1 Furness - this kid is my pick for sleeper of the year. Watson grew 4 inches over the summer. State Schools & Low 1's should be all over him, though Prep school is an Option as he'll graduate at 17.
6. Chris Kozole 6-0 Archbishop Ryan- brassy & flashy, plays the game like it should be played. A great athlete, defender and a snappy passer, also a ball-handling wizard. He controls games without even scoring. He's a hidden gem that is better than I imagined, definite D2, possibly Low 1. (qualified)
7. Murvin English 5-10 Overbrook (Mt. Pleasant) - He knows how to play and has become a great shooter and a very good leader. Widespread State School Recruit, who if given the chance would snatch the opportunity. (qualified SAT: 920)
8. Leroy Byrd 5-11 Bok Tech- slick and slithery, very underrated. He could play at the state schools easily and maybe better than that. He can drive, shoot and pass, also young for his grade (turned 17 on Jan. 28) and a good student. (qualified SAT: 840)
9. Labeeb Muhammed 5-9 Masterman (PYO)- this small CG, knows how to put the ball in the basket. He goes harder than anybody. I feel that he is being under-recruited. (qualified SAT: 1080)
10. Justin Scott 6-1 Engineering & Science (Phila. Phoenix)- "J-Scott" is the consumate PG. He hits the open three and is very unselfish. He also competes. Scott is getting widespread PSAC interest. (qualified SAT: 980)
11. Cameron Youngblood 6-1 Haverford School (Del Val) (qualified SAT: 1130)
12. Mike McGarvey 5-10 Penn Charter (Keystone Blazers) (qualified SAT: 1120)
13. Donta Williams 5-10 West Phila.
14. Ronald Davis 5-5 Dobbins Tech
15. Jerome Monroe 5-9 Calvary Christian (Philly Spirit)

26. Jason Polykoff 5-10 Friends Central (qualified)
27. Maurice Stennis 5-10 Strawberry Mansion
28. Isaiah Thomas 5-9 Frankford (Holy Flames) (qualified)
29. Kevin Pierce 6-0 Father Judge
30. Glover Colbert 5-9 Audenreid
31. Dan Rafferty 5-10 Kennedy Kenrick
32. Mike McDonald 5-10 Cardinal Dougherty
WG's
1. Matt Walsh 6-6 Germantown Academy (Philly Elite) FLORIDA
2. Richard Francis 6-3 John Bartram - "The Franchise" is an electrifying one-on-one player w/ Big Time potential. He is a good shooter off the dribble and he dunks/jumps over people. He is the Best player in the city in the crunch time. He takes over games and lives to take and make the big shot.
3. Aaron Brown 6-2 Strawberry Mansion - Brown is finally coming out of his shell. I thought that he'd be a D1 player when he was a Soph and I may be right. Brown only turned 17 in Jan. and Prep could be an option. He is a threat to go to the basket and finish athletically and he's one of the better shooters in the city. (qualified SAT: 820)
4. Matt Kearney 6-4 Monsignor Bonner (Chesco BobCats) - this kid reminds me alot of Mike Nestor(Bonner 95'). Kearney is tough as nails, a great athlete and a good shooter. He is the toughest matchup in the CL this year, should be gettibng definite Ivy interest. (qualified SAT: 1250)
5. Rob Sullivan 6-2 LaSalle (Airborn) - "Sully" is solid. He doesn't do anything outstanding, but he puts up good numbers and leads by example. He'll be a good CG at the D2 level and may be even the Patriot or Ivy League. (qualified SAT: 1100)
6. Ryan Rich 6-0 Kennedy Kenrick - deep shooter with unlimited range, good handle and court awareness, brassy and confident. (qualified SAT: 1070)
7. Ryan Haigh 6-3 Father Judge (Airborn) - Team Leader, deep shooter, plays both guard positions and gets is own shot at will, hard worker, at least a State School Player. (qualified)
8. Khalif Leek 6-3 Central - plays hard, a difference maker with his intangibles. He's also very strong with the ball and has an aggressive offensive nature. He's versatile as he plays all three perimeter positions. (qualified, SAT: 1030)
9. Marvin Kilgore Jr. 6-1 Olney- very athletic/explosive. Likes to go 1-on-1. This lefty can bury the deep trey or go to the hole for a slam. Also a great ballhandler/passer, Prep will probably be the route taken.
10. Chris Grandieri 6-3 Cardinal O'Hara (Del Val) (qualified, SAT: 1210)
11. Tim Smink 6-2 Cardinal Dougherty (qualified)
12. Khary Kenyatta 6-2 Central (qualified)
13. Chris Tucker 5-10 Lamberton (Mt. Pleasant) (qualified, SAT: 940)
14. Badir McCleary 6-0 Monsignor Bonner (Positive Image) (qualified)
15. Augie Woodlin 6-2 Simon Gratz (Sonny Hill)
16. Chris Del Brocco 6-0 St. John Neumann (qualified)
17. Nick Levine 6-2 Chestnut Hill Academy (Keystone Blazers) (qualified)
18. Demetrius "Meech" Wilkerson 6-1 University City
19. Brendan O'Malley 6-1 Archbishop Ryan (qualfied)
20. Jeff Williams 6-3 International Christian (Sam Rines)
21. Kevin Charles 6-3 Fels
22. Wayne Harrington 6-1 Strawberry Mansion (Philly Hoops CR)
23. Andrew Hightower 5-10 Engineering & Science (qualified)
24. Kevin Leonard 6-0 Mastbaum Tech
25. Johntai Holmes 6-2 Prep Charter
26. Darnell Newman 6-2 Northeast
SF's
1. Lee Melchionni 6-7 Germantown Academy (Tim Thomas Playaz) DUKE
2. Maurice "Mardy" Collins 6-5 Simon Gratz (Sonny Hill) - This skilled, athletic swingman has shown everybody that he can compete with the Nation's best this winter. He is a deft Mid Range shooter & he's deceptively explosive, getting Low to Mid Major offers, but respected National Evaluator, Bob Gibbons has rated him a High Major.
3. Mike Cook 6-4 Friends Central (Positive Image) - still hasn't qualified which has hurt his recruitment, has the SAT score, but short in the core. I feel Mid Majors should be looking to take him as a Partial qualifier.
4. Kelvin Green 6-6 Perkiomen School (Phila Phoenix/Positive Image) - Green is a beast. He's versatile as he can handle and shoot the mid range, plus he has the body of a blacksmith at 220-lbs. He's natural 3-man. He's got offers from Boston U., Monmouth, Robert Morris, Rider, Wagner, ect. Has scored over 2000 Points. Could do a year of Prep as his age suggests.
5. Eugene Myatt 6-5 West Philly (Philly Hoops) - Myatt is the best athlete in the city. He also has the best Mid Range game in the city. He has big time skills, but the problem is that he'll need an extra year of Prep School. Juco is an option as well.
6. Dahliek Powell 6-5 Roxborough (Phila Phoenix) - probably better suited to play the 2 in college, but I'll leave him here for now. Powell is a slasher supreme, who finishes with authority and plays hard at all times. He has the tools to play Mid Major D1 basketball, but could be a steal for a Low 1.
7. Darron Bradley 6-5 King (Sonny Hill) - big time athlete with big hands and broad shoulders (220-lbs). Also dunks on people. He has expanded his game to the outside as well which means that he'll probably be a wing at the next level. He has played himself into a Low 1 this winter. (qualified SAT: 830)
8. Akeem Wright 6-5 King (Sonny Hill) - also a WG, this kid could be a surprise for the Cougars as he is the forgotten man in the equation. He can shoot and is athletic. Young for the grade, may Prep, would be a good option. He could be a star after either. His better days are way ahead. He seems to grow every time I see him.
9. Anthony Harper 6-4 William Penn - very crafty, strong & athletic, scores from all over the court, nice handle, plays hard, may need Juco.
10. Shawn Ikokwu 6-4 Overbrook (Mt. Pleasant) - another utility player, who gets it done wherever coach Ford decides to use him. Long wingspan, good defender, great athlete. Big Time athlete, getting peeks from 2's. (qualified SAT: 1030)
11. Anthony Bennett 6-4 Monsignor Bonner (PYO) - late-bloomer to say the least, can guard almost every position at this level, nice mid range touch, wingspan of a condor. Getting interest from 2's & 3's. (Qualified)
12. Andrew Holland 6-4 Conwell Egan (qualified)
13. Roosevelt "Ro-Ro" Brown 6-4 Southern
14. Nick Martin 6-4 Lincoln (Philly Heat) (qualified SAT: 950)

22. Andy MacDonald 6-3 Archbishop Ryan
23. Charlie Hook 6-4 North Catholic (Philly Spirit)
24. Danny Jackson 6-2 Franklin
25. Mike Schieber 6-4 Northeast
PF's
1. Micheal Blackshear Jr. 6-6 Simon Gratz (Phila Phoenix) TEMPLE
2. Terrence Mack 6-6 Episcopal Academy (Positive Image) RHODE ISLAND
3. Chaz Crawford 6-8 Northeast (Phila Phoenix) - I feel that in 2 years, he'll be a stud. Someone should take and mold as his better days are way ahead. VMI, UNC-Greensboro, Rider, Monmouth and Drexel are intrigued by this late bloomer.
4. Matt Jefferson 6-5 Engineering & Science (Phila Phoenix) - Jefferson has come on as of late. He is also showing signs of moving to the wing. He just dunks on and over people. He could be a D1 player in the end. (qualified, SAT: 830)
5. Kristian Clarkson 6-7 Overbrook - State School Alert!, should block shots and Rebound like a mad man for the Panthers this season, soft Mid Range touch, athletic, better days are definitely ahead. Good Student, He gets better every time out on the court.
6. Rayheem Brown 6-6 Martin Luther King (Sonny Hill)- strong build, plays hard. Always plays within his own comfort zone. He's also a very good rebounder and a hard worker. Will need Prep School or Juco.
7. Magen McNeil 6-5 University City (Positive Image) - He is one of the better athletes in the city. He should thrive this season as no Post player is quick enough to guard him, possible wing player. Says he wants to Prep. (qualified, SAT: 850)
