Andrew Farrell, a popular member of
George Washington High's 2001 baseball team, died
4/18/04 of cancer. Two ex-teammates, Jason Welte and Craig
Mullen, collaborated to
write a wonderful story about "Drew" that appeared in the Northeast
News Gleaner on 5/13.
Jason is a volunteer assistant with Washington's
baseball team. In Andrew's memory, Jason
and Jim O'Hara, another volunteer assistant, are establishing the
Andrew Farrell "Spirit of
Courage Award," to be presented to a baseball player each year at
Washington's sports banquet.
Senior third baseman Ken Radziak was the first winner. We congratulate him!
I am the brother of Andrew Farrell the
George Washington High School Alumni baseball player who lost his life to Leukemia. After
reading all of the ones you posted for other deceased athletes, it is a true honor to all
of them. Though they may be gone, they will never be forgotton. They are continuing to do
what they loved to do except in a higher place. Again thanks to everyone who has sent me
their condolences and a special thanks to you Ted for keeping these young athletes' names
well known.
T.J. Farrell
