  The Cardinals roared to a 16-1 advantage in the final 4:14 of regulation and claimed the win when Cuttino ‘‘Cat’’ Mobley (11 points, seven rebounds) hit a free throw with 0:08 left in OT after grabbing an offensive rebound. Shawn Newman added 11 points for Dougherty, which lost five of its first six and eight of its first 11 before rallying to 8-8. McDevitt got 12 points and 10 rebounds from 6-7 Mark Zataveski, but missed four one-and-ones in the final 0:43 of regulation while allowing Mobley to hit a three and Elson DeVan to can an uncontested layup at 0:05.

Bonner 44, Neumann 43
  Fred Kohm scored the first of his 17 points before the game even started, converting a free throw after one of Neumann’s players was caught dunking during the warmups. Steve Zebuski scored the winning basket with 0:28 left on a pass from Jay Moran. At 0:08, Yusef Rodgers was called for a 5-second, closely-guarded violation even though Neumann had inbounded only 4 seconds earlier. Troy Aursby (16) led the Pirates.
North Semifinals
Kenrick 53, Dougherty 45
  Pat Beacham (14), Keith Gallagher (12), and Greg Grant (11, 11 rebounds) led the way as Kenrick coasted. For Dougherty, Shawn Newman scored 13 points to finish his career with 1,033 and become the first player in CL history to reach 1,000 in two varsity seasons. In a December non-league game against West, he’d set the record for most points scored (58) by a CL player when he shot 21-for-45 (four threes) and 12-for-18.
La Salle 50, Judge 32
  Curtis Eby scored eight of his 14 points in a 14-5 first quarter. Keith Conlin posted 10 points, 16 rebounds, four blocks. Tim Issel (13) led Judge, which shot 12-for-51 and 6-for-26 on threes.

Roman 89, Bonner 55
  At Dougherty, sub Jeremy ‘‘Saddle’’ Lawimore had 15 points, seven boards and five assists in 18 minutes while Bernard Jones had 21 points and eight rebounds in 17 minutes on a tender ankle. The Cahillites scored 26 consecutive points to create a 34-16 bulge. Mark Mulroy and Chris McFadden had 10 each for Bonner.
West 59, O’Hara 54
  David Reilly, angered about being overlooked in the coaches’ All-Catholic voting, shot 4-for-5 on threes en route to 18 points and dealt six assists while Chris McShane added 20 points and 12 rebounds. O’Hara’s Geoff Beaver had 15 points, 10 boards.

  Brian McGill collected 15 points and 11 rebounds and Ernie Koschineg scored 16 points as La Salle became the first North team to win three consecutive playoff titles. The Explorers led by 12 with 2:51 left, but Kenrick came within a missed three of forcing OT. Pat Beacham and Scott Lawler had matching stats (14 points, 11 boards).

  Marvin Harrison led the rout with 16 points while Jeremy ‘‘J.J.’’ Smith added 13 points and nine rebounds. Rob Wharton (10) topped West.

  Joe Simko and Bill Guthrie (five blocks) scored 11 points apiece and sub Joe Sinni had three assists and five steals while sparking a rally that saw Ryan scored 26 of the final 34 points. Matt Comey led North with 21 points.

  Kenrick’s David Neeld scored 10 fourth-quarter points, but missed three foul shots with 0:02 left after being wacked while attempting a tying three. Five-two Bernie Rogers had 20 points and four assists and passed to Joe Simko for the winning three with 0:22 left.

  Cuttino ‘‘Cat’’ Mobley hit three threes en route to 20 points and claimed nine rebounds. He had seven points as the Cardinals turned a 36-33 deficit into a 50-41 lead. Ryan (Joe Simko 19) was playing for the third time in four days and fifth time in eight days.
Judge 79, Wood 60
  John McGovern accumulated 18 points and 14 rebounds and Andy Oleykowski, normally a starter, shot 8-for-11 and 4-for-5 for 20 points. Wood’s Paul Favorite had 18 points, 11 boards.

Roman 54, Bonner 52 (ot)
  At Carroll, Dennis Bohn drove straight down the lane and flipped in a layup with 0:02 left. The lead was Roman’s first of the game. Bohn had 12 points, six rebounds and eight assists and Kyle Locke had 20 points. Bonner’s Bill Carr had 19 points, 10 boards.
O’Hara 69, West 58
  Adonal Foyle, a 6-9 soph, generated 26 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks and Brian O’Donnell had nine of the Lions’ 20 assists on 24 baskets. Scott Galloway (25) and Calvin Blackmon (19) led West.

Dougherty 46, Judge 43
  This game had the craziest finish in CL playoff history. With the score tied, 41-41, Dougherty’s Dave Black started a slashing move to the basket and it appeared he was grabbed by Judge’s Chuck Hiller. A highly controversial intentional foul was called at 0:09. Black hit two free throws and Cuttino ‘‘Cat’’ Mobley hit two more after the Cardinals inbounded the ball. At 0:02, Dougherty’s Jerry Ricca was fouled after rebounding a missed three by Judge’s John McGovern. But Dougherty’s fans, thinking the game was over, stormed onto the court and the Cards were assessed a technical foul. Ricca made one free throw and then Judge’s Danny Oldfield made two. On Judge’s inbound play, Oldfield took a pass from Chris Cervellero and hit the back part of the rim on a 40-footer. Both teams’ fans then hurled trash at each other — Dougherty’s from the floor, Judge’s from the stands.

  Seventh man Bill Shank scored five points in the final 0:23 — a one-and-one, a layup on an outlet pass from 6-9 Marc Jackson (15 points, six blocks) and a free throw at 0:02 after O’Hara was assessed a technical for calling a timeout it did not have. For O’Hara, John Watson had 22 points and Adonal Foyle had 12 points, nine boards, six blocks.

West 51, O’Hara 49 (ot)
  Coach Joe Donahue dedicated the win to his father, Harry, 80, who’d died two days earlier. Bernie Shannon had 15 points, Scott Galloway had 11 points and 11 rebounds, Jim Reilly dished nine assists and Jamal Palmer registered seven blocks. With 0:01 left, O’Hara’s Drew Baylor, a star pitcher, was inserted and made a long pass to Joe Collins. Collins caught the ball just inside the foul line, but his shot clanged off the rim.

  Joe Harvey had 19 points and eight assists and received help from Matt Comey (18), Mike Hartzell (15, 11 rebounds) and Ryan Bonner (12). Kevin Olender (17) led La Salle.

  Chuck Hiller shot 7-for-10 and 6-for-6 for 21 points and Danny Oldfield added 19 points. Kevin Hawley dealt eight assists.

  Matt Comey collected 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists while Mike Hartzell had 17 points and Joe Harvey had 14 points, eight assists. North won the overtime, 12-0. For Judge, which went 3-for-25 on threes, Danny Oldfield scored 19 points.

  Sean Tait (15), Matt Henrich (14) and Frank Sykes (11) led in scoring and Henrich had seven rebounds. Tim Erb (12) led La Salle.
North 78, Conwell-Egan 65
  Chris Heck shot 7-for-11 and 4-for-4 for 20 points while Dennis Comey (18, 10-for-10 at line), Kevin McGarry (15) and Brian Logan (14) also scored well. Comey and McGarry split 10 assists. Shaun Profy (16) paced Conwell-Egan, which was making its first playoff appearance since reaching the league final in 1964, its first CL season.

  Six-eleven junior Rafal Bigus notched 10 points and 12 rebounds and hit an inside shot with 0:08 left to provide a 40-39 lead. Paul Romanczuk (13, eight rebounds) and Kevin Leighton (12) helped. Mike Randle (12) paced West.
Roman 67, Neumann 56
  At North, Donnie Carr bagged 22 points, Eugene Small mixed 10 points and 14 rebounds and Lari Ketner swept 17 rebounds. Neumann’s Rashid Bey had 17 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals.

  Bill Labb shot 6-for-7 and 4-for-4 for a season-high 17 points as the surprising Falcons advanced to 17-10 with their ninth consecutive win. Chris Heck (19) and Dennis Comey (11 assists, four steals) also starred. Twenty of North’s 24 field goals were assisted. Judge (Ed Brun 11) shot 3-for-29 on threes.
Roman 56, Carroll 49
  Days after winning the state indoor championship in the triple jump (45-11), sub Will McKnight shot 6-for-8 and 2-for-2 for a season-high 15 points in 20 minutes as Roman broke the CL and city records for consecutive playoff victories. Roman upped its total to 17. West Philadelphia won 16 in succession from 1974 to ‘79. Eugene Small added 16 points and 11 rebounds and put the Cahillites for good, 46-44, with a left-baseline jumper on a pass from R.C. Kehoe. For Carroll, Mike Dzik scored 16 points and Brian Dunn dealt seven assists.

  Ignoring a bone contusion in his lower back that had made his availability doubtful earlier in the day, Jack Horgan shot 9-for-19 (three threes) and 11-for-13 for 32 points. Soph Joe Meade had 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists and 6-5 freshman Jim Reeves added 10 points, eight boards. Erik Henrysen (27) and Mike Haney (16) led Ryan.

O’Hara 45, SJ Prep 35
  John Gallagher hit three threes en route to 15 points as the Lions continued to impress after starting division play at 2-5. Greg Klein had 12 points, nine rebounds. Tony Hayden had 10 points and seven rebounds for The Prep.

  Bob Pembleton and Donnell Sutton had matching stats (14 points, seven rebounds) as the Cardinals held on after beating Wood by 35 points in a regular season finale five days earlier. Matt Delp (13) led the Vikings.

  Sean Tait posted 24 points with the help of six threes — a record for CL and city postseason play — and John McCann (14, 10 rebounds) hit a layup with 0:07 left to win it. Jim Reeves (14, nine boards) and Joe Meade (12) led La Salle.

  At La Salle University, Lari Ketner managed 13 points and 11 rebounds as Roman rallied from a second-quarter deficit of 18-4. Arthur ‘‘Yah’’ Davis and Donnie Carr hit one clinching free throw apiece in the final 0:09, surrounding an offensive rebound by R.C. Kehoe. Javier Crespo (13) led O’Hara.

  Tom Dearborn shot 4-for-5 on threes en route to 19 points while Rafal Bigus added 16 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks. Mike Ferkler held Mike Nestor (11) scoreless in a 25-16 first half; Chris Lee (15) wound up leading Bonner.

  Rafal Bigus shot 14-for-15 and 1-for-2 for 29 points as the Patriots shot 28-for-40 overall and 7-for-12 on threes. Martin Ingelsby added six assists, three steals. Judge put no one in double figures.

  Arthur ‘‘Yah’’ Davis (18) and Donnie Carr (14) led Roman, which overcame a 23-19 halftime deficit. Davis converted a three-point play to put Roman ahead for good, 31-30. Bob Pembleton (11) and Jim Rossiter (10) led Dougherty.

West 45, Bonner 44
  Frank Binns scored 17 points and nailed a buzzer-beating 7-footer along the left baseline after picking up a loose ball. The Burrs (6-8 going in) became the first CL playoff team with a losing record. Jasmine Williams had 12 points and six assists and soph John Ashmore grabbed 11 rebounds. Dennis Moran (16) and Tim Anderlonis (12, 10 rebounds) paced Bonner.

  Joe Meade totaled 22 points and three assists while subs Andrew Rakowski and Chris Magarity added nine and seven points, respectively. The Explorers shot 26-for-32 at the line. Jim Logan (20) and Mike Sigall (17) paced North.
Dougherty 43, Judge 39
  Eddie Leber, scoreless beforehand, notched the final five points of the game on a layup and 3-for-4 shooting at the line. Donnell Sutton had 14 points. Jason Holloran (18, 5-for-6 on treys) led Judge. The game’s start was delayed 24 minutes after the collapse of a railing fronting the Looney Bin stands at the east end of Dougherty’s gym.
Roman 74, West 36
  At La Salle University, Donnie Carr (21) and Curtis King (11, eight rebounds) paced the rout as Roman advanced to the semifinals for the eighth consecutive year. For West, which shot 11-for-43, sub Harvey Renwrick scored 11 points in 11 minutes.
Carroll 81, Neumann 63
  Martin Ingelsby (24), Tom Dearborn (20) and Andy Buzbee (19) combined to shoot 23-for-39 as the Patriots frolicked. Neumann’s Mark Del Brocco hit three threes and went 10-for-10 at the line en route to 27 points.

  Brendan Ferns accumulated 22 points, 11 rebounds and three steals, Chris Klos shot 6-for-7 and 5-for-6 for 18 points and Brendan Fox dealt seven assists. Ryan Presson (19) led McDevitt.
La Salle 66, Wood 57
  Brett Gordon dished nine assists to help Joe Meade (18), Mike Morsell (13) and Chris McShea (11) reach double figures. The Explorers outscored Wood by 18 points over the last 8:02 as Gordon ended the third quarter with a deep three. Wood’s Joe Thompson (25) and Bill Hutchinson (18) drained five and four threes, respectively.
Neumann 71, Roman 58
  Victor Thomas (16), James Fowler, Rashime Middleton (14 apiece), sub Devon Fowler (12, James’s brother) and Mark Del Brocco (11) scored in double figures as Neumann prevented Roman from advancing to the semis for the first time since 1985 and assured the Cahillites would not win 20 games for only the fourth time in 25 seasons. Rasual Butler (13) led Roman.

  Tim Judge used perfect shooting (4-for-4, 2-for-2) to score 11 points while Martin Ingelsby added 21 points and three assists and Bill Phillips mixed 15 points, eight boards, three blocks. Chris Hightower led The Prep with 16 points and seven rebounds.

  Victor Thomas shot 8-for-8 en route to 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Pirates advanced to the final for the first time since 1985. James Fowler, Mark Del Brocco and Rashime Middleton had five assists each. Sub Devon Fowler drained four threes while reaching 19 points. La Salle’s Joe Meade had 15 points, eight boards.
Carroll 64, Judge 32
  Bill Phillips sparked the mismatch with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Martin Ingelsby had 11 points and five assists as the Patriots raised their record to 27-0. Only Tim Ryan (17) and Chris Klos (six) topped two points for Judge.

Judge 72, North 47
  Kris Dufner shot 5-for-9 on threes en route to 28 points and Jim Reeves shot 5-for-7 and 7-for-8 for 17 points as Judge cruised. Brendan Ferns and sub Mike Pidhirsky had seven rebounds each. Jimmy Foley (12) led North.
Ryan 55, La Salle 52
  Anthony Starace collected 21 points and nine rebounds and Joe Kozole added 13 points as Ryan advanced to a semifinal for the first time since 1984. Kozole’s three-point play with 1:15 left gave the Raiders a 52-50 lead, their first edge since 8-7. For La Salle, Chris McShea mixed 18 points and 12 rebounds and Alex Ramos (17) missed a last-second three.
Roman 63, Neumann 56
  At La Salle University, Rasual Butler (26) poured in 17 points in an 18-10 third quarter as Roman zoomed to a 45-39 lead. Thirteen came in the first 3:38 of the session as Butler hit three threes. Mustafa Bey added 15 points. Devon Fowler led Neumann with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
O’Hara 51, Bonner 34
  Seven-one Alex Sazanov posted 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocks, Jeff Randazzo added 14 points and Lou Becht and Bill Hagan split 10 assists. Bonner’s Scott Fremont had 11 points, seven boards.

  Sub Brian Fox, son of coach Bill Fox, totaled 14 points and two assists in 18 minutes as the Crusaders advanced to the final for the first time since 1983. Jim Reeves had 11 points and 13 rebounds. Judge shot 23-for-27 at the line to Roman’s 4-for-6. Roman’s Rasual Butler mixed 18 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks.
O’Hara 64, Ryan 56
  Jeff Randazzo erupted for 29 points while Alex Sazanov added 16 points and 11 rebounds as O’Hara qualified for the final for the first time since 1971. Bill Hagan doled six assists. Anthony Starace (22) and Frank Pellegrino (20) topped Ryan.

O’Hara 79, SJ Prep 58
  Jeff Randazzo generated 23 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks as O’Hara cruised. The Lions led by as many as 30 points, 57-27. Jeff Siti also scored 23 points while Bill Hagan had 11 points, 10 assists and five steals. For The Prep, Chris Haas drained six treys in the fourth quarter (seven total; first guy to make that many in CL postseason history) en route to 23 points and Kasim Holloman scored 17 points to finish his career with 1,154.
Quarterfinals
Judge 51, Wood 48
  Chris Roantree shot 9-for-13 en route to 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Mike Pidhirsky added 10 points. With 6.7 seconds remaining, Wood franchise Tim Whalen, the coaches’ North MVP, scored a go-ahead basket that was wiped out by a walking call. Whalen had 18 points, eight rebounds.
La Salle 49, Dougherty 47
  Chris Stanton (12 points) took a pass from neighbor Brian "Whitey" Horgan (also 12) and hit the winning basket with 0:04 after driving along the left baseline. Brendan McCormick added 11 points, seven rebounds. For Dougherty, frosh Tim Smink hit three treys en route to 13 points. It was Smink’s third varsity game. In his first, against North Catholic, he’d shot 5-for-5 on treys for 15 points (he took no other shots) as Dougherty clinched a playoff berth.
West 59, Neumann 46
  Anthony ‘‘Toby’’ Binns hustled for 17 points, four rebounds, five assists and seven steals as the Burrs won going away. Marlon Belfon (12) and Ronald Banks (11) also scored in double figures and Greg McCleary claimed 14 rebounds. Chas Bailey scored 13 points for Neumann, which was hurt by the limited availability (six minutes) of point guard Cantrell Fletcher (sprained ankle).
Roman 52, O’Hara 47 (2 ot)
  At La Salle University, Roman’s Eddie Griffin and O’Hara’s Jeff Randazzo staged a classic big-man war. Griffin had 23 points, 16 rebounds and 10 blocks while Randazzo had 25 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks and stuck a three-pointer in Griffin’s face to force the second OT. No one else on either team reached double figures. With 1:23 left, sub Anthony Miller converted his only shot to provide a 47-45 lead.

Doubleheader at Temple’s Apollo
West 59, La Salle 50
  Greg McCleary collected 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks as the Burrs advanced to the final for only the third time (also 1976, ’81) since last winning the title in ’59. McCleary, not known to pay attention whether his feet were behind the arc, shot 3-for-4 on threes and hit one to provide a 54-47 lead with 2:08 left. Marlon Belfon added 12 points, nine boards and three blocks. La Salle’s Chris Stanton hit four treys en route to 20 points.
Roman 48, Judge 44
  With his school’s fans wearing T-shirts reading ‘‘Griffin 3:16’’ on the front and ‘‘You just got dunked on’’ on the back, Eddie Griffin posted 23 points, 10 boards and five blocks and hit a clinching free throw with 4.5 seconds left after Judge’s Brian Bond was just short on a three-pointer that could have forged a tie. Judge’s Mike Pidhirsky had 22 points, 10 rebounds.

2000

At Bonner
O’Hara 63, SJ Prep 59 (ot)
  Fran Grandieri shot 7-for-14 (three triples) and 9-for-14 for 26 points as O'Hara beat a team that had registered a regular season sweep by 37 total points and led by 35-26 with 2:52 left in the third quarter. Grandieri also had 12 rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks. The Lions went ahead for good, 59-56, with 1:04 left as Mike Zamulinsky hit a three on a pass from soph Chris Grandieri, Fran's sophomore brother. Jamar Stokes (16 points) and Ryan Tyson (14) led Prep.
At Bonner
Carroll 68, O'Hara 58
  Fran Grandieri again was spectacular, getting 31 points -- the fourth-best total in CL postseason history -- and nine rebounds, but his outburst could not offset the balanced scoring of sub Kevin Waterman (18), freshman Kashif Payne (17, eight assists) and Dave Hoopes (14). Carroll thus earned a playoff spot after going 0-14 in the '99 season.

  A 25-for-30 performance at the line and 16 points apiece from Cantrell "Man-Man" Fletcher, David "Meatball" Crawford and Brandon Brigman (nine rebounds) allowed Neumann to control the game. Frosh Jordan Ingram led Carroll in points (12) and rebounds (seven).
Dougherty 40, McDevitt 37
  Driving coach Mark Heimerdinger batty, the Cardinals for some reason played beyond conservatively in the final quarter, losing it by 7-4, and barely survived. Jonathan Davenport led Dougherty in points (13) and boards (six) and sub Aaron Pinckney, who'd missed a large chunk of the season with knee miseries, shot 4-for-4 for eight points. McDevitt's Wayne Bishop, the two-time North scoring champ, had 13 points and Jack Ketterlinus came close on a running, straight-ahead trey at the buzzer.
Roman 85, West 38
  Eddie Griffin, the two-time South scoring leader, posted 23 points in 20 minutes as Roman stormed to the biggest win in CL playoff history, surpassing 34-pointers by Roman in the '91 quarterfinals and final. Sub Brent Welton had 11 points, six rebounds. West had no one in double figures, shot 16-for-62 and was outrebounded, 37-20.
La Salle 67, North 42

  Brandon Brigman shot 9-for-14 while scoring 19 points and leading Neumann to a win made simple by a 28-17 second half. Cantrell "Man-Man" Fletcher and David "Meatball" Crawford had 12 points apiece. For La Salle, Brian "Whitey" Horgan (18) shot 8-for-17. His teammates shot 10-for-31.
Roman 57, Dougherty 37
  Don't let the final score fool you. Sparked by Robert Carter, who several times maneuvered around Roman star Eddie Griffin for baskets, Dougherty charged within 43-37 with 3:14 left. The Cardinals then went dry and Roman finished with a 14-0 run. Griffin had 14 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks. Michael Wild added 10 points, seven assists. Jonathan Davenport topped Dougherty in points (14) and rebounds (six).

  Wood 49, Conwell-Egan 37: At Ryan, Fran Dougherty posted 14 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks as the Vikings gained their second regular-playoff win in 43 seasons of CL membership. Joe Getz, Brian O'Grady (11 apiece) and Tim Fahy (10) also scored in double figures. For C-E, making its third playoff appearance in 46 CL seasons, Isaac Robinson scored 14 points.
  W. Catholic 50, Dougherty 45: At Carroll, Rob Hollomon (19) shot 9-for-10 at the line en route to 13 points in the fourth quarter. Ade Barek added nine points, nine rebounds and six blocks. Only Brandyn Wims (18) reached doubles for Dougherty.
  La Salle 32, SJ Prep 30: At O'Hara, Eddie Joyner-Mitchell scored the Explorers' final four points on two free throws and a buzzer-beating layup; they sandwiched Mike Leithead's midrange jumper. Only La Salle's Malik West (10) scored in double figures. This was only the second time since 1950 that a CL playoff produced as few as 62 points.

  Roman 73, La Salle 49: Rakeem "Rahk" Brookins exploded for 31 points, shooting 9-for-15 (three treys) and 10-for-13. He also had five of the Cahillites' 22 steals; Kawaun Chavis led the way with six. Koron Reed totaled 13 points, six rebounds. La Salle's Eddie Joyner-Mitchell and Todd Stokley halved 24 points.

  Carroll 51, W. Catholic 48: Andre Wilburn collected nine points, 13 rebounds and two blocks and hit a free throw with 1.7 seconds left after West committed an inbounding violation.   Neumann-Goretti 77, N. Catholic 62: Danny Stewart powered home five dunks in an 18-point performance as the Saints cruised. He added eight rebounds and enjoyed watching his freshman brother, Derrick, blocking a dunk attempt by North's 6-9 Rakeem Christmas. Tyreek Duren added 15 points, five assists. North's leaders were Jack O'Neill (18, eight rebounds, four assists) and Christmas (14, seven boards, seven rejections).
  Roman 63, Carroll 59 (OT): Kevin Regan, who said he'd struggled with his shooting all season, lit up the Big House with 24 points on 10-for-15 marksmanship that included 4-for-7 sniping on treys. He also notched a late block to help force OT. Rakeem "Rahk" Brookins added 13 points and nine assists. Andre Wilburn (14), Juan'ya Green (13), Kasheef Festus (12) and DJ Irving (10) scored in double digits for Carroll and Ben Mingledough just missed (eight). Festus (12) and Wilburn (10) led in boards. Brookins passed to sub Abdul King for the first points of OT and Roman led the rest of the way.

Catholic 66, Judge 64: In the Falcons' final game in their famous Pit, Bobby Makor beat the buzzer (maybe, there was MAJOR doubt) with a mid-range, right-wing jumper that was finally ruled good by referee L.B. Rebstock three-plus seconds after the ball passed through the net. Makor notched 18 points, five rebounds and two steals. This was not his family's first brush with a "final" NC sporting event. His sophomore brother, Michael, was a starting lineman for the grid squad, which topped Frankford in its finale, played at La Salle University. Star linebacker David D. Williams grabbed this one's final rebound after Judge's Nick Sullivan hit one of two free throws at 36.3. Six-nine junior Seamus Radtke led Judge with 17 points, seven rebounds, six blocks. Joe Kehoe (16) hit three of his four threes in the fourth quarter.
  SJ Prep 57, Bonner 45: Joe Nardi's 23-point outing was highlighted by five treys. Steve Vasturia and Connor McIntyre halved 18 points and the former added nine rebounds. Jamal Melvin (16) and Keefer Francis (12) topped visiting Bonner.
  Wood 55, W. Catholic 46: Brian O'Grady powered for 18 points and 15 rebounds and Joe Getz mixed 10 points, seven assists. Aquil Younger (21) was the only visiting player in double figures.
  Dougherty 64, Conwell-Egan 53: In a game that could have been their finale, the visiting Cardinals placed three guys in double figures -- Brandyn Wims (12), Brandon Brown (11), Ryan Colbert (10) -- and three more scored at least eight. Brown posted nine markers in a 29-16 first half. Ike Robinson led C-E with 15 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks. Shortly before gametime, coach Rick Sabol was informed by an administrator that one of his key players would be unavailable (school issue).

  Carroll 61, Wood 40: Ben Mingledough (17) and DJ Irving (15) paced the scoring while Juan'ya Green (eight) and Irving (four) helped the Patriots post 15 assists. Wood, which received 17 points from Joe Getz and 11 points/12 rebounds from Brian O'Grady, missed its first 10 shots of the third quarter and wound up being outscored, 12-2.
  La Salle 54, N. Catholic 43: Shooting jumpers lefthanded and layups righthanded, Joe Brown went 6-for-8 en route to 15 points while also claiming a game-high 10 rebounds. He posted three of his field goals in a 17-11 fourth quarter. Troy Hockaday added 15 points. In what everyone feared was North's final game (the archdiocese is closing it come June), Mike Terry collected 16 points and the smallest Falcon, Woody Redding, scored his team's last points on a follow with 1:13 left. Sub Kerry Shields missed the last shot.

  Neumann-Goretti 89, Dougherty 58: The Saints sniped 10-for-15 on treys and Tony Chennault (24) led four double-figure scorers. Mustafaa Jones (16) went deep four times, Danny Stewart totaled 15 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks, and Tyreek Duren mixed 15 points with four assists. Brandyn Wims (16, seven assists) and Jamal Nwaniemeka (14) led Dougherty in the school's final game. The Cardinals' final points came on a trey by point guard Dawan Earle with 0:59 showing.
  SJ Prep 42, Roman 41: After getting burned along the left baseline by sub guard Daiquan Walker for a layup, with 11 seconds remaining, that gave Roman a 41-39 lead, Joe Nardi took a pass from Sean Brophy and beat the buzzer by banking home a straight-on trey from a shade behind the arc. It was the first CL playoff decided by a last-second trey that reversed a deficit. Afterward, Nardi said he'd been guilty of double-dribbling. The win was No. 200 for coach William "Speedy" Morris in just nine Prep seasons. Nardi and Roman's Rakeem "Rahk" Brookins scored 20 points apiece.

  Carroll 51, La Salle 47: With 5:48 left in the second quarter, star point guard DJ Irving suffered what was proven the next day to be a broken right hand. After missing about eight total minutes, he returned and spent the rest of the game serving, as he put it, "as a decoy." However, he did contribute a steal and 60-foot drive for a layup deposited with his left hand. Vince Mostardi passed to Anthony Butler for a layup that made it 49-47, then Butler added two free throws after La Salle could not connect on a layup and foul line jumper. Juan'ya Green contributed 17 points and four assists. For La Salle, Joe Brown scored 12 points and Eddie Mitchell dealt six assists.
  Neumann-Goretti 74, SJ Prep 60: Tony Chennault was dominant with 23 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Danny Stewart (15, nine boards) and Tyreek Duren (14, three assists) also had strong outings. The Prep fired 31 treys and hit 14, with Joe Nardi (27 points) leading the way (7-for-12; tie for most successes ever in CL playoff action with the Hawks' Chris Haas in a '99 preplayoff). Mike Fee added a 4-for-6 showing. Nardi also had five assists and Connor McIntyre grabbed six rebounds.

  Ryan 53, Conwell-Egan 45: With the league down to 14 teams due to the closings of Dougherty, Kennedy-Kenrick and North Catholic, honchos scrapped divisions and decided 10 teams would make the playoffs. This one, played at La Salle, decided 10th place between a pair of 4-9 squads. Eric Fleming scored 29 points, hit three treys in a 20-13 third period and grabbed 10 total rebounds. Christian Rivera had 11 points. Kyle Slawter mixed six rebounds and seven assists while committing no turnovers. Carlton Whitehead (18) led C-E.
First Round
At Home Sites
  Wood 53, Ryan 48: After star defender Kyle Adkins picked up his second foul 3;33 into the game, frosh Tommy Rush was assigned to Ryan's Eric Fleming and did an excellent job the rest of the night. Almost too excellent. The next option turned out to be forward Christian Rivera, who packed 18 of his 20 points into the second half and even rallied the visiting Raiders from a 12-point deficit into a 45-44 lead with his umpteenth hard, lengthy drive for a layup. Adkins then victimized Rivera for a steal and layup and his double-bonus with 1.4 left provided the clinching points. Joe Getz had 19 points (10 in the second quarter). Shane Neher added 14 points, seven boards. Fleming finished with 17 points (after a quick seven vs. Adkins), finalizing his career total at 957.
  Bonner 56, W. Catholic 54: Billy Cassidy knocked down four treys en route to 18 points and his free throw with 5.8 remaining created a two-point lead. Scott Slade, from behind, then blocked a last shot that would have forced OT. Slade totaled 10 points and as many rebounds. His brother, Craig, a k a "Poppy," had 13 and seven. Anthony Jackson added a career high of 13 points, plus three assists. Mark Perez (14), Julian Lee (12) and Christen Gibbs (10) led host West. Julian Reed dished five assists.
Quarterfinals
  Carroll 72, SJ Prep 67: Juan'ya Green became just the second player in CL postseason history to surpass 32 points and, even better, claimed a spot on the top rung with Roman's Kyle Locke (39 vs. Dougherty in the '92 final). Green poured in his 39 by shooting 12-for-17 (two treys) and 13-for-15. All four of his first quarter points came on free throws. From then on Carroll notched 20 field goals. Green notched 12 and passed for six more. Overall, he had seven assists (and six rebounds). For visiting Prep, sophs Stephen Vasturia (27, four treys) and Miles Overton (26, six) were also dynamic. Overton (five) and Mike Fee (four) led in assists while Vasturia grabbed six rebounds.
  Roman 63, Judge 57: Unaware that Phila. Electrical, assisted by his father, Marshall, had captured an afternoon Pub quarterfinal (he'd turned off his cell phone to avoid distractions), Shafeek Taylor made it a two-win day for the family with an outing that featured 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Taylor accounted for five points as the third quarter ended (assist to Fortunat "Junior" Kangudi; three free throws after drawing a foul with two-tenths left) and converted a follow to make it 57-53 after Shep Garner missed a free throw after canning a hard-contact layup. Fresh-faced frosh Rip Engel was perfect on four free throws to highlight the final moments. Kangudi had nine points, 12 rebounds. Montana Mayfield scored six of his 12 points in a 12-2 run to start the game. For host Judge, soph Steven Griffin shot 10-for-18 (one three) and 6-for-8 for 27 points while Reggie Charles added 10 rebounds and five apiece of assists/steals to 13 points.
  Neumann-Goretti 63, Bonner 39: John Davis (15 rebounds, four blocks), Ja'Quan Newton and La'Quan Coaxum thirded 36 points and Hanif Sutton dished six assists; those last two guys were bench players. Scott Slade topped visiting Bonner with 17 points and his brother, Craig, had eight rebounds.
  La Salle 55, Wood 34: Eddie Mitchell shot 6-for-7 (three triples) and 5-for-7 en route to 20 points. Soph Amar Stukes added 17 points while Steve Collins (eight) and Joe Brown (seven) led in rebounds. Joe Getz topped visiting Wood with 12 points.

  Carroll 59, La Salle 45: Soph Yosef Yacob shot 6-for-9 and 5-for-5 for 18 points and four times posted three-pointers; thrice in the traditional manner. He also helped to limit Eddie Mitchell (22) to 13 points through three quarters and 8-for-18 shooting overall. Juan'ya Green used a 12-for-12 performance at the charity stripe to score 16 points, thus lifting his career total to a school record 1,438 (13 better than 1997 grad Martin Ingelsby), and after the game he was able to meet Kyle Locke (see quarterfinal recap), who was in town to recruit for the women's team at the University of Washington. Tracy Peal had eight points, 10 rebounds, four assists. La Salle committed just three turnovers, but shot 17-for-47.
  Neumann-Goretti 47, Roman 46: The Saints needed clutch plays from leapmeisters John Davis and Derrick Stewart in the final seconds to claim their 53rd consecutive CL win, counting playoffs. At the west end, Davis soared to steal an inbound pass and Lamin Fulton (14 points) nailed a 15-foot, left-baseline jumper, thus erasing a 46-45 deficit. Stewart then pogo-sticked to block Montana Mayfield's 10-foot, in-the-lane floater as time expired. Davis mixed 11 points and as many rebounds. Stewart grabbed nine boards. For Roman, Fortunat "Junior" Kangudi totaled 10 points and 16 rebounds while Mayfield mixed 13 points and six assists. This was N-G's sixth long-streak win by 10 points or fewer, and its first one-pointer.

2012
First Round
  La Salle 59, Judge 41: Borrowing an idea from Taylor University, in Indiana, La Salle's student rooters, about 200 strong, staged "Silent Night." They wore costumes and remained silent/still until the Explorers scored their 10th point, then went berserk (and remained in high-energy mode throughout). The first 10 points were achieved in 4:08 thanks to two treys by Matt Rodden and two more by Steve Smith, making it 12-0. Smith (20 points) finished with six. Darnell Artis had six assists. Brian Hennessey (19) led Judge. As the final seconds melted away, the La Salle kids sang -- you got it -- "Silent Night."
  O'Hara 45, Conwell-Egan 44: Trying for its second playoff win in school history (No. 1 had come in its first CL season, 1963-64), C-E roared to 10 consecutive points and took a 44-42 lead on Dylan Pease's left-side, seven-foot jumper with 9.6 seconds remaining. Heartache came at the buzzer as Pat Hagenbach took a pass from Sean Havink and drained a right-wing trey, giving O'Hara its first playoff win since a 1998 semifinal. Ed Allen (10 rebounds) and Mike Louden scored 12 points apiece. C-E's Jamal Nwaniemeka scored 20 points to raise his career total to 1,009, counting 139 at Cardinal Dougherty (through 2010).
Quarterfinals
  Neumann-Goretti 77, O'Hara 51: Billy Shank's 22-point outing included five treys while John Davis (eight rebounds) and Ja'Quan Newton (six assists) halved 30 points. Derrick Stewart (nine) also hit the boards for the Saints, who upped their four-season CL winning streak, counting regular season games and playoffs, to 68. Sub Sean Havink led O'Hara with 18 points and he nailed four shots from beyond the arc. Mike Louden dished four assists.
  Carroll 53, La Salle 49: The Explorers used a 9-1 run to storm within 45-44 with 2:58 remaining, but Alec Stavetski, mostly quiet to that point, swished a trey and a regular to again put Carroll in command. Lou Dominique (12), Yosef Yacob (11, five assists) and Isaiah Warren scored in double figures and frosh Derrick Jones claimed 12 rebounds. Amar Stukes (18) topped La Salle in points while Ryan Winslow (nine) and Steve Smith (eight) were the rebound leaders.
  SJ Prep 76, Wood 49: Kevin Oberlies, usually content to perform little tasks, sniped 7-for-10 (three treys) and 3-for-3 for 20 points, dealt four assists and still played strong defense (on soph Pat Smith; 11 points). Miles Overton's 18-point afternoon featured four treys in the second half. Guard Stephen Vasturia (12) was the top rebounder. Shane Neher led the Vikings with 15 points and his five rebounds were three more than anyone else claimed.
  Roman 53, Ryan 43: At Philadelphia University, Shafeek Taylor shot 7-for-12 and 4-for-5 for 19 points while sharing leading-rebounder honors with Rashann London (eight apiece). Ryan's leaders were Nick Aughenbaugh for points (10) and Christian Rivera (four) for rebounds. Kyle Slawter attempted no shots while distributing five assists.

  Neumann-Goretti 73, Roman 56: Billy Shank, held scoreless during the teams' regular season OT meeting, nailed three treys as the Saints stormed to a 12-2 lead. Derrick Stewart had the other (he went first) and Hanif Sutton racked up the four assists (en route to eight). Roman charged within six points late in the third quarter, but N-G closed with an eight-point run thanks to threes by the Quan Half-Quartet (La'Quan Coaxum and Ja'Quan Newton) and Coaxum's follow. Newton went 10-for-14 at the line while scoring 17 points. Stewart grabbed 10 rebounds. Shep Garner (20) and Shafeek Taylor (14) paced Roman.
  SJ Prep 58, Carroll 49: Known usually for their treyball expertise, the Hawks instead thrived inside while making William "Speedy" Morris the winningest coach in city history at 622; Dan Dougherty had 621. They went 18-for-28 on twos and were a lofty 15-for-18 through the third quarter, which ended 46-30. Miles Overton totaled 20 points (three trreys) and three assists while Stephen Vasturia added 16 points, eight rebounds, four dimes. Gene Williams (eight boards) and Kevin Oberlies (five assists) helped out. Yosef Yacob topped Carroll in points (17) and assists (five). Lou Dominique did so in rebounds (11). No announcement of Morris' feat was made over the PA system. Speedy's son/assistant, Keith, reminded everyone in the locker room. An announcement of the 621-621 tie HAD been made after the quarterfinal.

  Lansdale 50, Conwell-Egan 35: The teams met for the second consecutive night to break a tie for 10th place and LC, a fifth-year CL member, once again triumphed, thus earning its first playoff berth. Chris Rudisill missed his only shot (a follow), but claimed 14 rebounds and blocked three shots. Andrew Riviello (18) and Brian Rafferty (17) led in scoring; Rafferty added eight rebounds and five assists. C-E missed 15 of its first 16 shots and trailed, 22-3, with just short of 12 minutes having been played. The Eagles' top scorers were freshmen Stevie Jordan (nine), LaPri Pace (eight) and Vinny Dalessandro (seven).
First Round
  McDevitt 56, Judge 46: In year No. 50 of CL membership, the Lancers finally claimed playoff win No. 2 (also 1989) as Tyrell Long shot 10-for-15 en route to 22 points. He also slid into someone standing in a doorway while trying to save a loose ball. "All I saw was leggings and legs and pants and jeans. Then I looked up and . . . 'Ohhhh. I hope I don't get suspended.' " The someone was principal Mary Kirby, who kiddingly told him later, "Tyrell, when you came out the door, that was my leg you hit! It's all black and blue! I'm going on workman's comp!" Kenyatta Long (no relation) posted eight assists and four steals, Tymere Wilder added five dimes and Dural Watson drained a trio of second quarter treys. For Judge, which dropped its eighth consecutive postseason outing, the leading scorers were Brandon McGuire (11) and Jeff Seigafuse (10); they were spectators for the first 7 1/2 minutes for violating a team rule.
  Wood 38, Lansdale 36: Pat Smith tallied seven of his nine points in a 16-7 fourth quarter as the Vikings avoided getting upset by a team playing its third game in four nights. Shane Neher (10 points, six rebounds) and Joe LoStracco (10 boards) aided the cause. Brian Rafferty (11) and Andrew Riviello (10) led LC, which could not connect on a last-second floater.

  Neumann-Goretti 85, McDevitt 54: John Davis (25) missed just two shots in 14 attempts and plucked nine rebounds as the Saints showed a nationally televised thumping at the hands of Chester would have no long-lasting ill effect. Ja'Quan Newton added 19 points and 13 boards while Tony Toplyn recorded five blocks. Tyrell Long led McDevitt with 11 points while Kenyatta Long (five assists) and Carl Garner (seven boards) halved 20.  
  Roman 55, Wood 44: At Philadelphia University, Rashann London (17) was the only Cahillite to score in double figures, but five others notched six or eight. Sixth man Matt Simon hit a trey late in the second quarter to put Roman ahead for good, 23-21. Star guard Shep Garner did not surpass two points until 2:00 remained in the third quarter, but finished with eight along with three apiece of assists/steals. TreVaughn Wilkerson had four blocks. Wood's Shane Neher collected 13 points, five rebounds, three steals.
  SJ Prep 74, La Salle 57: The host Hawks scored their first 24 points without any from Stephen Vasturia, the league MVP. No sweat. His co-star, Miles Overton, packed 19 of his 26 into the first half and went on to finish with 16 total rebounds. Vasturia was dominant in the second half en route to 23 points. Chris Clover added 13 points and eight rebounds. Hindered by two early fouls, La Salle's Amar Stukes scrambled for 18 points and six assists. He and Pat Cooney (16) halved six treys.
  Carroll 69, Ryan 53: Derrick Jones (22) shot 10-for-14 from the floor and Yosef Yacob (18) came close to matching that performance at the line (9-for-13) for the Patriots, who stormed to a 37-19 edge over the middle periods. Yacob added eight rebounds and seven assists in a well-rounded performance. Ryan's Bryan Okolo totaled 14 points and six assists while Gage Galeone nailed five treys while posting 19 points.

  SJ Prep 57, Roman 50: Becoming the first team to use just five players in a CL playoff since O'Hara in a '92 semifinal (fell to Roman, 52-50), the Hawks avenged a regular season defeat and made sure coach William "Speedy" Morris would not drop below .500 (now 13-12) against the school where he first gained coaching fame. Of the 11 players who took shots from the floor, the Prep's Kyle Thompson (14 points, 4-for-5 on treys) was the only one to make more than he missed. Miles Overton (17) and Stephen Vasturia (16, 8-for-8 at line) generated a shade more points and halved eight assists. Vasturia claimed nine rebounds. Shep Garner (15, seven boards) and TreVaughn Wilkerson (10, eight) led Roman, which trailed by 10 with 4 minutes remaining and stormed within 51-48 before P.J. Kelly's leaping steal of a cross-court pass changed the momentum. The Hawks' other starter was soph Chris Clover.
  Neumann-Goretti 57, Carroll 34: Ja'Quan Newton (18 points, eight rebounds), John Davis (11, 13) and sixth man Troy Harper (11) were the leaders as the Saints extended their dominance of Carroll to 27 wins in the last 28 meetings. The lone exception was a 2009 Class AAA quarterfinal; the Patriots surged ahead to win the CL's first state title in year No. 1 of PIAA competition. The 6-1 Harper notched seven of his points in a 17-3 second quarter and highlighted a 21-10 third stanza when he soared for a cup-a-missed-shot-off-the-rim, wolf-it-down dunk that he said was a lifetime first. For Carroll, which went 12-for-55 and suffered 16 blocked shots (Tony Toplyn had seven; Davis added four), soph Derrick Jones was the leader in points, rebounds and assists (11/11/four). N-G won its quarter/semi by 54 points, the biggest margin since Roman was relentlessly dominant (67) in 2000.

  McDevitt 51, Judge 40: The teams combined to miss 30 of their first 32 shots, but McDevitt was on fire (8-for-9, 6-for-7) in a 23-7 fourth quarter. Therein, Tyrell Long (13 total rebounds) scored 10 of his 15 points and Amin Taylor posted six of his nine. Sub Fateem Jackson claimed 18 rebounds. Sophs Quincy Reed (14)/Justin Fleming (12) and frosh Marc Rodriguez (11) led Judge, which shot 7-for-26 on threes and 6-for-21 on twos.

  McDevitt 58, Conwell-Egan 57: Playing a do-or-die game for the third consecutive day, the lower-seeded Lancers lassoed this win as Jayson Clark passed to Amin Taylor (17 points, seven rebounds) for a three-point play and his fifth assist with 14 seconds left, then hit a clinching free throw at 0:04. Tyrell Long (four blocks) and frosh Qadir Burgess halved 30 points. With Burgess (5-for-7) and Taylor (3-for-4) leading the way, McDevitt shot better on treys (8-for-16) than it did on twos (11-for-25). In all, the Lancers were playing for the fourth consecutive day. The string began with a 102-69 loss to Neumann-Goretti and then a win over Bonner-Prendergast to earn a preplayoff with Judge. These two CL playoff wins were just the third and fourth in the school's 51 seasons of membership. C-E was denied its second; No. 1 had come in '64. The Eagles were led by Stevie Jordan (19), LaPri McCray-Pace, Jordan Burney (13 apiece) and Vinny Dalessandro (10). Burney was a junior. The others were sophs.
  W. Catholic 48, Lansdale 45: Small forward Jahmil Harris (23 points, 11 in fourth quarter) drained a top-of-the-key trey with 1.3 seconds remaining to cap a wonderful performance. The hosts posted 18 field goals and he was involved in 16 of 'em -- scored nine, assisted on seven. Brandon Cole packed 11 of his 13 points into the first half. Brian Rafferty (16, seven rebounds) and Kyle Pavlik (12) reached double digits for LC, which had dropped a two-point decision to West (also on a last shot) in the same gym five days earlier.

  Roman 84, McDevitt 56: At West Catholic, the Cahillites trailed by 36-34 at halftime and were in danger of becoming just the fifth CL team with a perfect league record to fall in a quarterfinal. So much for nervousness: Roman scored 30 of the next 34 points. All five starters -- Rashann London (15), Shep Garner (14), TreVaughn Wilkerson (13), Manny Taylor and Tony Carr (12 each) -- scored in double figures, Taylor swept 11 rebounds and London/Carr halved 12 assists. Tyrell Long scored 22 points for McDevitt, finalizing his career total at 1,140 (No. 2 in school history to 1,272 by '84 grad Eric Ervin).
  Neumann-Goretti 98, West Catholic 58: Ja'Quan Newton (26) led the way as the Saints had no trouble breaking the record for points in a CL playoff (89 by Roman in a '91 quarterfinal). Newton shot 6-for-12 on treys. Eleven guys scored and three more reached double figures -- frosh sub Quade Green (15), Troy Harper (13) and Lamarr "Fresh" Kimble (12, eight rebounds). For visting West, Brandon Cole netted 20 points while Jahmil Harris mixed 12 points, eight boards, four assists.
  Carroll 64, Wood 44: Derrick Jones shot 9-for-17 and 6-for-10 for 24 points and snatched 13 rebounds for the Patriots, who owned the second half at 29-14. Austin Tilghman totaled 12 points, four assists. Dave Beatty scored 10 points off the bench. For visiting Wood, which shot 8-for-24 on treys, no one reached double digits. Joe LoStracco claimed seven rebounds and Cody Fitzpatrick dealt three assists.
  La Salle 38, SJ Prep 33: The teams combined to shoot 22-for-76 from the floor (28.9 percent) and 4-for-24 on treys (16.7 percent) and only one player from each team -- David Krmpotich (16) for La Salle; Chris Clover (17) for SJ Prep -- scored in double figures. The Explorers' top rebounder, with seven, was their shortest starter, Najee Walls. The visiting Hawks, who missed wing sniper Tom Fox (knee injury), posted just six points over the initial 14:37 of the second half and went 0-for-8 for treys before hitting their first of two with 19.9 left.

  Roman 52, La Salle 45: The Cahillites owned a 15-point lead after three quarters, but La Salle stormed back within 46-43 before experiencing a late fade. Fueling the comeback was sixth man Sean Greenberg, who notched eight of his 11 points in the fourth quarter. His dad, Chip, starred for the school's '81 CL champs and was the Daily News City Player of the Year in '82. Tony Carr led Roman with 13 points while sub Gemil Holbrook and Manny Taylor evenly spilt 20. They added nine and eight boards, respectively. David Krmpotich led La Salle with 15 points, 10 boards and four blocks. Najee Walls dealt six assists.
  Neumann-Goretti 67, Carroll 62: By draining a left-corner, west-end, step-back trey to end the third quarter, Ja'Quan Newton (1,809) surpassed '85 grad Steve Benton (1,808) to become the leading scorer in N-G's many-names school history. He finished the night with 15 and 1,816. Lamarr "Fresh" Kimble had 17 points and three assists. Though the Saints were embarrassed on the glass (35-15), they triumphed in blocked shots, 10 to four (six for Tony Toplyn, four for Jamal Custis), and three-pointers (8-for-13 to 1-for-10). For Carroll, junior Derrick Jones used a late free throw to reach 1,000 career points while he and Ernest Aflakpui (14 points) halved 20 boards. Newton's three-point play off an outrageous dunk made it 63-56. His reverse layup stretched the edge to 67-57.

  Wood 66, Ryan 56: Wood no doubt came into this one with swirling emotions. In their final two league games, the Vikings won AT Roman and then got skunked at home by Carroll. Luke Connaghan made sure an upset would not occur by powering for 25 points and claiming eight of his 13 rebounds at the offensive end. Tommy Funk mixed 19 points with five assists. Izaiah Brockington (22) and the given-name Austins -- Slawter (12) and Chabot (12) -- paced visiting Ryan.
  Judge 64, Bonner-Prendie 49: Marc Rodriguez bombed away for 25 points with the help of six treys in eight attempts. Quincy Reed added 13 points and Will Brazukas dealt six assists. For visiting B-P, Marques Jackson contributed 17 points and seven rebounds.

  Neumann-Goretti 88, Judge 57: Zane Martin scrambled for 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists and Lamarr "Fresh" Kimble mixed 10 assists with 17 points. Rasheed Browne (4-for-5, 14 points) and Vaughn Covington (4-for-6, success on three consecutive possessions, 13) excelled beyond the arc. For visiting Judge, the leaders were Marc Rodriguez (14) and sub Rob King (12).
  Roman 64, Wood 50: At Philadelphia University, point guard Tony Carr started a 19-5 closing rush by exploding for three consecutive field goals. He finished with 18 points, six apiece of rebounds/assists and four blocks. Nazeer Bostick shot 7-for-11 en route to 16 points. Manny Taylor scored six quick points off the bench and finished with 12. Wood's starters tallied from nine to 11 points (Tommy Funk, frosh Tyree Pickron). Funk, the point guard, added seven rebounds and five assists. Pickron snatched eight boards. The Vikings, who'd beaten Roman in its gym seven days earlier, hit four treys in the first quarter, but none thereafter.
  Carroll 47, Conwell-Egan 34: The hosts stormed to 36 of the final 52 points. Ryan Daly, Dave Beatty and Daly again buried treys to open the third quarter as an 18-15 halftime deficit was left behind. Derrick Jones had 21 points (6-for-8 floor) and 10 rebounds. Carroll shot a combined 1-for-8 from the floor in the second/fourth quarters and scored only at the line (10-for-14) in the latter. C-E's LaPri McCray-Pace shot 6-for-6 at the line while notching 10 points. Relentless defense by Samir Taylor and Josh Sharkey held point Stevie Jordan, usually a whirlwind, to seven points.
  La Salle 37, SJ Prep 33: Five days earlier, in these bitter rivals' regular season finale, La Salle's Dave Krmpotich missed four free throws in the first extra session of what became a three-OT loss. This time, before an even more outrageous crowd, he hit two free throws at 3.7, then intercepted a lengthy inbound pass and drained two more at 1.4. Krmpotich and Shawn Witherspoon (four assists) reached 11 points apiece while the rebound leader was point guard Najee Walls (eight). For the hosts, league MVP Chris Clover (37 in the regular season matchup) had 19 points and Pete Gayhardt seized 11 rebounds. This was the third time in seven years (also 2014, '09) that a La Salle-Prep playoff matchup produced no more than 71 points. All three results were among the Top 10 of the lowest scoring CL playoffs going back to the 1950-51 season.

  Roman 61, Carroll 58: The Cahillites overcame deficits of 8-0 and 41-30 and four guys (Tony Carr 17, Nazeer Bostick 15, D'Andre Vilmar 10, sub Manny Taylor 10) scored in double figures. With five seconds remaining, starter Paul Newman scored his first playoff points of 2014-15 by hitting two free throws, thus assuring Carroll would have to try a trey. It did not succeed. Nazeer Bostick, a guard, snagged 12 rebounds and Carr distributed four assists. The Patriots received 23 points and 13 rebounds from Derrick Jones, who ended the night as the school's career scoring leader with 1,502 (2011 grad Juan'ya Green had 1,493). Ryan Daly added 10 points, seven boards.
  Neumann-Goretti 70, La Salle 65: Though N-G shot 24-for-38 from the floor (63 percent) and 17-for-22 at the line (77percent), and committed just six turnovers, it was still in danger of being tied in the final seconds. After La Salle missed a trey, Zane Martin hit two clinching free throws. Quade Green (26, 5-for-6 on triples) and Lamarr "Fresh" Kimble (23) combined for 49 points while totaling 18-for-23 from the floor. Vaughn Covington dealt five assists for the Saints, who used a 17-2 run to forge a 55-40 lead with 6:34 remaining. For La Salle, Dave Krmpotich grabbed eight rebounds and sniped 10-for-14 en route to 22 points while Shawn Witherspoon dealt seven assists.
