Serving His Country Again . . .
Return to TedSilary Home Page
Olney High
baseball coach Barry Strube is again serving the U.S. in Iraq.
Here's a note detailing Barry's situation and military history, which we
asked him to provide:
I am currently a Captain in the Air Force's Security
Forces (Military Police) assigned to the 506th Expeditionary Security
Forces Squadron. My home unit is the 911th Security forces out of
Pittsburgh Air Reserve station. Our job is Air Base Defense as well as
police services and convoy protection. This is my 3rd tour to the AOR,
one for Operation Desert Shield and two for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
First tour was in 1999 in Kuwait City (3 months), the second was in 2005
at Ali Al Salem Air Base Kuwait(3 months), the third is now at
Kirkuk Regional Air Base Iraq (scheduled for 6 months but you
never know). I was also activated for two years from Sept. 2001 to Sept.
2003 for Operation Enduring Freedom. During that period I was part of
the Homeland Defense Force spending a majority of my time heading the
913th Security Forces at Willow Grove ARS with stints in Texas and
Tennessee for troop training missions mixed in. I also participated in
several different anti-drug missions to South and Central America from
1999 to 2001 to include Columbia, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Brazil,
Ecuador, and Peru.
