SJ Prep 35, O'Hara 0:
The Hawks frolicked against a team that had provided stiff competition (16-7
score) during the regular season, thus advancing to the final for the eighth
straight year. Aaron Haas (four TD passes; 8-for-10, 137) and Greg Castillo, son
of Eagles' assistant Juan (three TD catches; 5-110), tied postseason city game
records. Haas completed the Hawks' scoring with a 9-yard run on their first
possession of the third quarter. Linemen Ryan McGinn and Joe Ventresca sparked
the defense. The Prep's average score in these eight semis victories was 35-8.
For O'Hara, Mark Wedderburn made three catches for 59 yards.

Roman 35, Judge 10:
Not only did the Cahillites rally from a 10-0 deficit, they slapped 28 third
quarter points on the board; Al Desiderio began the avalanche with a 77-yard
kickoff return for a score. Balial Lewis Sloan-El finished the evening with 20
carries for 172 yards and two TDs, Chris Johnson's only completion went to Nick
Moody for a 36-yard score and the tackling leaders were Marty "Bo" Bernard (11) and
Andrew Regan (nine). Tailback Andrew McHale (25-89), the coaches' division MVP,
capped the game's first drive with an 11-yard TD on a pass from Paul Volpe.
FINAL

Roman 10, SJ Prep 9:
Though the teams' regular season meeting had produced a 36-7 defeat, Roman
received an early confidence boost when 320-pound Jewhan Edwards rumbled
straight up the middle to block a punt and Andrew Regan recovered the ball for a
TD. Roman's Chris Fioravanti (39 yards) and Prep's Tim Edger (45 yards, two
short of the city's postseason record) blasted field goals. With 28.5 left, Jim
McGoldrick uncorked a stirring, 77-yard punt return for a TD, but Edger's PAT
hit the left upright and Regan recovered the onsides kick. Roman's Balial Lewis
Sloan-El ran 29 times for 118 yards, raising his season's total to 2,141. This
was the fourth time in eight seasons that Prep, unbeaten in division play,
suffered a title-game upset.

bout with West. DeLucas carried 11 times for 85 yards and three scores while
adding 11 tackles. Cunningham's numbers: 14-166-2-9. For Carroll, which
committed six turnovers and never touched an onsides kick that was recovered by

W. Catholic 28, Wood 7:
As they'd been all season, alternating junior tailbacks Rob Holloman (17-107)
and Raymond Maples (16-81, two TDs) were a two-headed rushing monster as the
Burrs won a second consecutive title for the first time since claiming four
straight starting in 1943. Those performances allowed each to surpass 1,000
yards for the season -- Holloman (1,048), Maples (1,040). QB Curtis Drake, like
those two a junior, ran for two scores while raising his season's
rushing/passing yardage total to 1,922. Maples, Haleem "P-Nut" Hayward, Rodney
Blango and Jordan Culbreath had interceptions. Wood suffered an early blow when
RB-LB Bob DeLucas, the coaches' division MVP, departed with an ankle injury.
Sean Cunningham ran for the Vikings' score.
