Quarterfinals
Germantown 42, Southern 0
Angel Moultair rushed 18 times for 185 yards and three TDs to pace the romp. Darryl Martin (10-144, TD) and Wesley Robinson (10-96, two) also enjoyed ballcarrying success as G-town posted 433 yards total offense. Danilo Aguiar, a recent import from Brazil, went 6-for-6 on PAT.
Bok 10, Central 8
Charles Kennedy had seven solos and four first hits among 18 tackles, five of which went for losses. Ralph Sheridan added 12 tackles. Receiver Ramon Mills ran 25 yards for a TD on a reverse, Kevin Sims caught a conversion pass and Trumell Goodwin forced a fumble that resulted in a safety. For Central, Teddy Lipford passed 5-for-13 for 104 yards and Tacuma Cardwell made three catches for 88 yards.
Frankford 52, Edison 6
The rushing of James Allen (9-202, two TDs) and Theodore McNeil (9-74, three) sparked the Pioneers to a 464-yard performance and ruined Edison's first postseason appearance since 1967. On a 65-yard TD run, Timothy King gained more yards than Edison managed in total offense (53).
Mastbaum 27, Washington 6
John Grone passed 6-for-8 for 89 yards and one TD apiece to Mike Street and Earl Johnson. Chris DeShields (15-116, TD) and Jarreau Dodson (11-85) led in rushing while Otis Everett notched a TD on a 26-yard fumble return. Washington scored on Cory Sutton's 25-yard halfback pass to Kyle Bell.
Semifinals
Doubleheader at Northeast
Germantown 23, Mastbaum 0
In the first game of an all-unblemished twinbill (everybody entered 8-0), Mastbaum committed four turnovers in the last 10 minutes as G-town turned a 3-0 game into an easy victory. Angel Moultair did not get into the end zone, but he rushed 21 times for 118 yards, recovered two fumbles and forced two others. Ed Butler (reception), Jeffrey King (interception) and Coco McGregory (run) scored the TDs. Mastbaum boasted a 40.3 scoring average.
Bok 30, Frankford 22 (OT)
Ramon Mills made six receptions for 139 yards and three TDs, raising his season total to 11, as the Wildcats beat Frankford for the first time in 15 lifetime meetings. (Bok beat Frankford for the 1950 PL title on total yardage after the game ended in a scoreless tie.) Mills's third score, a 2-yarder on a perfectly lobbed pass from Kareem Jeffreys, began the OT session. Frankford then earned third-and-goal at the 2, but Ed Brumskill dropped Theodore McNeil (26-125) for a 1-yard loss on his 11th tackle and Trumell Goodman and Rodney McCarter combined to dump James Allen (19-70) for a game-ending, 7-yard loss. Brumskill also made a TD-preventing tackle at the 1 in the first quarter, caught two conversion passes and recovered a fumble to set up a TD.
Final
At Northeast
Germantown 29, Bok 6
Angel Moultair rushed 20 times for 130 yards and three TDs, tying a game record, and made a team-high eight tackles at linebacker as G-town made Mike Hawkins the first city-leagues rookie coach to finish with a perfect record (11-0) since Episcopal Academy's Lambert Whetstone in 1927 (8-0). Wesley Robinson added 78 yards on 13 carries and Ed Butler (seven tackles) returned an interception 52 yards for the final score. For Bok, Kareem Jeffreys scored on a QB sneak 0:14 before halftime and Charles Kennedy made 10 tackles.

First Round
Ryan 21, O'Hara 7
Anthony Graziani (23-103) and Neal Regan (23-103) ran for one TD each
while Regan added nine tackles (three for losses). O'Hara junior Kevin
Jones, already the CL's all-time career rushing leader, carried 14 times
for 97 yards and a score before leaving in the third quarter with an
ankle injury. He finished the season with 1,824 rushing yards and 25 TDs.
SJ Prep 42, North 7
Kevin Stefanski passed 10-for-14 for 136 yards and two TDs -- both to
George Hess (7-119) -- and ran for a score. Milton Johnson rushed 15
times for 84 yards and a score. The Prep used a 28-0 third quarter to
zip away from a 7-7 halftime tie. For North, a TD pass from Mark Suarez
to Ted Murphy covered just 1 yard.
Semifinals
Back-to-Back Nights at Northeast
Roman 10, SJ Prep 7
Unaware that his mother, Marge, had suffered a mild heart attack an
hour before gametime, Tim Schmidt threw a 48-yard TD pass to Steve
Taylor and made a late-game deflection to prevent a TD by Prep QB Mike
McGann, who performed capably (6-for-13, 109 yards) after replacing
Kevin Stefanski (torn ankle ligaments), the division MVP, early in the
second quarter. Joe McCourt began the scoring with a 29-yard field goal.
La Salle 16, Ryan 0
The Explorers squeezed the life from the game by limiting Ryan to six
first downs and 99 yards total offense. Ben Bailey rushed 22 times for
129 yards and a TD while Kevin Dougherty dove into the end zone for a TD
after picking up the ball on the 2; Ed Sabia had fumbled after a 37-yard
interception return.
Final
At Northeast
Roman 21, La Salle 7
Derek Clayton carried 17 times for 128 yards and TDs of 20 and
55 yards to give the Cahillites their first title since 1947. On the
bench was the framed No. 41 jersey of Bob Evans -- a star in '47 and
later the school's biggest supporter until his death in Dec. 1996. Joe
McCourt added 105 yards and the clinching TD on 25 carries while Tim
Schmidt made an interception and passed 5-for-12 for 84 yards. La Salle
was held to 27 plays, four first downs and 131 yards -- 55 on a TD run
by Chris Dougherty (15 tackles).
Blue Division
First Round
West 7, Neumann 6
Abdul Sesay gained 95 yards on 18 carries and Greg Sheeran passed for
a 10-yard TD to Bill Ford, after which Sean Hackett's PAT gave the Burrs
a 7-0 lead. Neumann scored with 0:14 left on a 4-yard pass from Nick
Laska to Jason Gargon (21-80 rushing), but a conversion pass by halfback
Christian Wright was broken up by Tyhiem Gaston.
Dougherty 26, Wood 21
Despite being outgained, 338-161, Dougherty became the first
city-leagues team with a regular season record as poor as 2-5 to win a
playoff game. Ben Dever passed 4-for-10 for 101 yards and two TDs to
Sarina Oeub (3-70), the first Cambodian native to make an impact in
city-leagues football, while Rodney Daniels (fumble return) and James
Jefferson (end-zone fumble recovery) scored defensive TDs. Wood's Sean
Murphy ran 22 times for 167 yards and the game's first two scores.
Semifinals
Back-to-Back Nights at Plymouth-Whitemarsh
McDevitt 20, West 7
Tom Vesey (19-114), Ralph Walters (7-82) and QB Mike Hagarty ran for
one score apiece and Tim Conaway was among the defensive leaders with a
fumble recovery and a sack among five tackles. For West, QB Greg Sheeran
ran 14 times for 58 yards and a TD.
Carroll 28, Dougherty 7
Brian Mattaway carried 26 times for 120 yards and two TDs and Marty
Higgins kicked field goals of 32 and 42 yards. For Dougherty, Ben Dever
ran for a TD and passed 13-for-29 for 163 yards and Sarina Oeub, made
seven catches for 97 yards.
Final
At Northeast
McDevitt 14, Carroll 10
Mike Hagarty passed 6-for-13 for 94 yards and a 30-yard,
first-quarter TD to Rob Clift and engineered a 59-yard, 13-play drive
that produced Tom Vesey's winning 1-yard TD with 2:34 remaining. The
Lancers converted three consecutive third-down plays during the drive.
Carroll had taken a 10-7 lead with 11:06 left on Marty Higgins's ninth
field goal of the season. Dan Maha (fumble recovery) and Dave Melcher
(interception) made sure Carroll's final two possessions would be
unproductive.
