FB Players of the Week, '06

Return to TedSilary.com Home Page

Click here to see the new logo for the shirts!!

We are happy to announce a continuation of the partnership between In the Zone Inc.
and TedSilary.com that will enable us to award T-shirts to all FB Players of the Week
during the 2006 season.

ITZ is owned by former Malvern Prep FB player Brett Antell, and we very much
appreciate his willingness to help honor the winners with more than an announcement on
the site. Not that a mere announcement wasn't gigantic (smile).

We'll usually get the T-shirts to the winners with the help of the good, ol' United States
Postal Service (to the player in care of his coach), though Ted may some deliver some in
person if he knows he'll be seeing a winner's team that upcoming weekend.

The regular announcement . . .

Every Wednesday, we will name six Players of the Week in this space -- two apiece from
Catholic, Public and Inter-Ac schools (one offense, one defense). We will take nominations
through Tuesday night.
    Goofy nominations won't be posted.
We encourage coaches to make nominations, especially to make sure we are aware of
special line play ("anonymous" is fine). Players can win just once through the regular season;
everyone will again be eligible in the playoffs.
Send nominations, with the reason you're nominating the player to silaryt@phillynews.com.
As always, thanks for your interest/help.

We will NOT post e-mails after the fact concerning the Player of the Week choices, positive
or negative. Once the results are posted, the nomination e-mails will be deleted. Performances by
players in competitive games, and/or those considered upsets, will generally carry more weight.
Unless I hear otherwise from winners at silaryt@phillynews.com or 215-854-5814 (just leave
word on this voice mail), I'll make strong guesses on sizes.
   Thank you,
   Ted

New this year . . . The week's best performance in defeat (and
we'll pick just one player each week in the Inter-Ac. Sorry, guys.
But the league IS much smaller than the others -- smile.)

Also . . . no nominations for lines/groups of players. We name
an Offensive Line of the Week each Tuesday in the Daily News
and the members of our Offensive Line of the Season, to be
picked in December, will receive T-shirts.

(Yes, You Guys Get T-Shirts, Too -- Smile)
CATHOLIC LEAGUE
Greg Frantz, La Salle, OLB

In the Red final, he set an early, an-upset-is-possible tone by returning

history, and the Explorers went on to beat SJ Prep, 14-7.
Chris Wilk, Ryan, RB-LB

Ran for two TDs and blocked well in his first appearance and made
nine tackles (four for losses) as the Raiders dumped Washington, 28-6.
Troy Richardson, Roman, WR
Turned seven catches into 139 yards and two TDs, helping the
Cahillites topple Roxborough, 19-6.

scoring pass in the Crusaders' 28-0 win over Lincoln.

return, leading the Vikings past Central, 27-16.

WEEK 12
CATHOLIC LEAGUE
OFFENSE
Matt Little, Wood, RB
After a month's worth of inactivity due to a broken forearm, and
while still sporting two screws in one bone and a plate in the other,
he ran 28 times for 110 yards and a TD (a 51-yard burst was lost
to penalty) as the Vikings bested Neumann-Goretti, 16-6, in a Blue
semifinal.
DEFENSE
Sean Saverio, La Salle, OLB/SS

Hustled for 10 tackles, with one going for a loss, and recovered a
fumble in the title-earning victory.
BEST PERFORMANCE IN DEFEAT (any league)
Colin McFillin, Washington, waterboy
Like always, Colin, a special-needs student who has earned All-Public
honors in swimming, fulfilled the hydration requests of the Eagles and
helped them in any other possible way, as well. (Two of the best playing
candidates for this, Washington's Oliver Wallace and N-G's Adam
Malatino, just won awards last week, and we trust they'll be OK with
our decision to honor an unsung hero.)

the 56 yards on those two plays would have lifted his total to a city

fumble in the Eagles' 19-10 semi win over Northeast.
