He then grounded out, first baseman to the pitcher covering. This one was also played over two days due to rain.

JUNE 2
PUBLIC LEAGUE FINAL
At La Salle University

It appeared early the Pioneers might have to go only three innings to earn their third consecutive championship (due to the 15-run rule), as they posted an eight-spot in the very first inning. Juan Carlos Torres, winning pitcher Kelinton Tejada and Andrew Bracero had singles for RBI, Carlos Rosado stroked a two-run single, Richard Jimenez (sacrifice fly) and Pat Lewis (walk) also got runs home and one scored on an error. Trailing 9-3 in the seventh, Central received a two-run homer from Walt King (leftfield; across the driveway and over a hedge) and an RBI single from Joe Tierney before Jimenez, who worked the last two innings, retired reliever Jared Farbman on a popup to end it. King finished 3-for-3 with a walk and his homer. The win up Frankford's four-year Pub record, counting playoffs, to 69-2.

JUNE 1
CATHOLIC LEAGUE FINAL
La Salle 4, Conwell-Egan 3

Junior lefthander Matt Zielinski pitched perfect ball through five innings and finished with nine strikeouts in a four-hitter. C-E's Chris David opened the sixth with a double off the leftfield fence and later scored on Joe Jordan's infield single. The seventh began with Rich Dupell's single and Matt Burns' homer over the fence in the leftfield corner. After a visit from coach Joe Parisi, who told him to retire the next three batters and expressed confidence that he would, Zielinski did just that on a strikeout, popout and fly to centerfielder Mike Villari (3-for-3, RBI, run scored). La Salle scored two apiece in the first and fourth. Will Phillips' sacrifice fly and a wild pitch plated two unearned runs in the first. Sean Saverio and Villari had RBI singles in the fourth.

PUBLIC LEAGUE SEMIFINALS
Doubleheader at La Salle University
Frankford 7, Northeast 3: The Pioneers upped their four-year Pub record, counting playoffs, to 68-2, and had to overcome a deficit to do so. After a walk to Nick Diamond and Chris Steinke's single gave Northeast a 2-0 lead with two away in the visiting fourth, Richard Jimenez replaced Edwin Burgos and got a one-pitch out. Frankford posted a four-spot in the bottom half, as  Kelinton Tejada (two-run triple) delivered the big blow. Jimenez allowed two hits, both infield singles, in earning the win. Luis Alicea pitched the seventh.
Central 7, Washington 4: Andrew "Potter" Reynolds allowed just three hits (one through six innings) and struck out nine. He also slammed an RBI double off the fence in rightfield to cap a four-run fourth. His blast immediately followed Matt Smith's two-run, inside-outed triple down the rightfield line. Jared Farbman had two RBI. Washington's only RBI on a hit was provided by Marc Tankel (seventh-inning single.)

CATHOLIC LEAGUE SEMIFINALS
Doubleheader at La Salle University
Conwell-Egan 11, O'Hara 4: The North runner-up rolled to a surprisingly easy win over the South champ while advancing to the final for the first time since 1982. Greg Martoccio reached base in all four of his plate appearances (two singles, two walks) en route to one RBI and three runs scored. Help came from John Malloy (3-for-5, double, triple, RBI) and Ryan Terry (2-for-4, double, three RBI). Chris "Meat" David had a no-hitter going when he was removed in the sixth after issuing a walk and going to 3-0 on the next batter. Brian Herman allowed two hits thereafter. Jim Young bagged a two-run triple when rightfielder Mike Verdeur misjudged his blooper.
La Salle 5, Roman 4: With help from a strong wind, which arrived just before a thunderstorm caused a 42-minute delay in the fourth inning, Zac Hess launched a three-run homer over the fence in right-center to create a 3-3 tie. Sean Saverio singled home the fourth run of the inning and Mike Pennington (double) scored on a wild pitch in the fifth. Matt Zielinski allowed eight hits and fanned 10 in six-plus innings, then Chez Angeloni recorded a save in hairy fashion. His wild pitch could not immediately be found by Saverio, the catcher, and Brian Cooper scored from second. Then, pinch-runner Mike Mychack was rubbed out in a rundown after Pennington fielded a grounder at third base and Dominique Joseph was caught stealing at second base to end it. Joseph was easily safe, but was tagged out after momentarily losing contact with the bag.
