OCT. 24
PUBLIC AAAA QUARTERFINAL
Northeast 26, Bartram 20
The first round of the Public league playoffs, and this one was a good one. If anybody thought the Bartram Braves were gonna lay down and let Northeast run all over them . . . wrong! This was a hard fought game and was decided in the last minutes. I give a lot of credit to the Braves' offense, and the Vikings' defense. The Vikings' "D" shut down Bartram's star, RB Tyron Cheeseboro, with only 4 yards on 8 carries, but QB Laquan Williams made the best of his pass attempts and QB scrambles. Well, when i got to the game (late) it was 6-0, Bartram winning. The Vikings start moving the ball downfield with the running combination of jr. RB Tyleel "T.N.T" Taylor (42 yards on 7 carries) and sr. FB James "BIG COUNTRY" Rosseau (22 carries, 161 yards). So Rosseau scored on a 1-yard run to make the game 7-6. Next possession Williams dropped back, broke a tackle and found WR Marquis Bailey for a short pass. Bailey then broke one tackle and spun off another guy he scramble down Field for 77 yards before he was tackle at the 5. A couple plays later Williams hit WR Yusuf Bangura for a 5-yard TD. Cheeseboro added a 2-pt conversation to make it 14-7. The Vikings marched downfield with the help of Rosseau's running, but was forced to kick a field goal from 30 yards out and star sr. K Tim Freiling nailed it. Om the next kickoff Freiling kicked the ball off a Bartram kid's helmet and recovered it all by himself. Wow!!! What a kick!! But the Vikings were forced to kick another field goal, but this time from 43 yards out, and he nailed another one. So at halftime the score was Vikings 13 and Bartram 14. Second half Vikings came out passing with star jr. QB Malik Stokes hitting Steve "I GOT HANDS" Pinckney for 3 consecutive catches and some passes to his brother, Tennessee commit sr. WR Je'Ron Stokes. And before you know it Rosseau ran in for a 10-yard TD. They decided to go for two and failed, so that left score at 20-14. the Vikings' defense, which was led by sr. LB Antoine "I'LL HIT ANYTHING MOVING" Fowler, stopped the Braves and forced them to punt. So the Vikings were moving the ball downfield when they fumbled and the Braves recovered and they had momentum as the crowd went crazy. As they started to move downfield, Williams dropped back for a pass and it was intercepted by Pinckney. That's all it took for Vikings to get going. A couple plays later, Malik dropped back and found his brother in the back of the end zone for a 18-yard TD. From there on the Vikings played good "D" and ran the clock out . . . but not before Williams hooked up with Bangura for a 11-yard TD. But was too late as the Vikings pulled this one out 26-20.
Notes: The Vikings must have enjoyed their bye last week and the Braves just could not recover from their shocking lost to West Philly, as they lost two in a row after winning their first six . . . Bartram will stay busy with non-league stuff until their Thanksgiving game. As for the Vikings, they will be looking forward to their rematch with Frankford in the semifinal Nov. 1 at 6 p.m.

OCT. 4
PUBLIC AAAA RED
Washington 28, Northeast 20

As I predicted this game turned out to be a good one with the most exciting 4th quarter in high school football. In the beginning of the 4th the score was 28 to 0, and the Vikings had zero. With 5 minutes left in the game the score was 28 to 20!! Yes, Northeast scored 20 unanswered point in seven minutes and I'm 'bout to tell you how that happened. At the end of the third GW Sr. RB Omar Hunter scored on a 62-yard run up the middle, which gave the Eagles a 28-point lead. Tthe next kickoff fell into the hands of Tennessee-bound Sr. WR Je'Ron Stokes, who returned it 55 yards. A couple plays later at the first snap of the 4th quarter, star Jr. QB Malik Stokes threw a 26-yard pass to his brother for his first TD of the game; that's all it took for the momentum to change. Next the Vikings tried a squib kick, but Sr. LB Elijah Douglas recovered. The Eagles went three and out, and the Vikings kept their momentum going. Malik made a couple of passes that gave them the ball 1st and goal at the 1 yard line. The next play he called his own number on a sneak and the Vikings were inching their way back into the game. Next Sr. K Tim Freiling went for the onside kick and Douglas went to make the catch before Sr LB Antoine "I'm hitting everything that moves" Fowler smacked Douglas and soph. Camile Max recovered for the Vikings. The first play Malik threw a bullet to Sr. WR Jarell Kennedy that went for 26 yards, the very next play he threw a 23-yard TD pass to Jr.WR Eric "Flav" Brundidge and the Vikings were knocking on GW's door. Then sr .WR Raheem "Rock" Groce was forced to run because he received a high snap trying to convert the extra point and that left the score at 28 to 20. Washington took over at its 45, so a couple of plays later it was 4th and 13 and the Eagles "DID NOT" punt???? They went for it as Jr. QB Aaron Wilmer dropped back and launched a deep pass into the Vikings secondary; it was broken up by no other than Je'ron Stokes. So the Vikings, still riding momentum, got the ball with 48.9 seconds left in the game. First play inc to Je'ron; next was inc to Jr WR Steven "I got hands" Pinckney; a 15-yard completion to Je'ron; spike with 28.5 left; pass completed to Pinckney for 18 yards; another spike with 19.6 left. The next play I scratched my head as a hitch pass was thrown to Groce. He only gained a yard and didn't get out. After they spiked the ball, only 3.5 was left in the game. So we come to possibly the last play of the game: Malik dropped back and threw a perfect pass to Groce in the back of the end zone. The ball fell on his fingertips and as he tried to pull it in. Sr DB Lorenzo Adams broke up the pass and assured the Eagles the win. In the first three quarters, the Vikings tried running with promising Jr RB Tyleel "T.N.T" Taylor only carrying the ball 8 times for 42yards and Sr. FB James "Big Country" Rosseau with 40 yards on 10 carries. As for the Eagles, Sr. RB Omar Hunter led the way by rushing for 104 yards on 8 carries, and RB Kesson Christopher adding 51 yards on 11 carries and Wilmer added 2 TD runs of 13 and 16 yards. As for the Vikings defense, it was led by Fowler with 7 TFL's and a sack and a pick for Brundidge.
Notes: Vikings look almost unstoppable when their passing game is working, and Washington looks like they will be in the tittle game again. But if these two teams meet in the playoffs, it can go either way. so the Vikings will get ready for Overbrook and the Eagles will focus on their game against Frankford Friday night!!

SEPT. 26
PUBLIC AAAA RED
Northeast 20, Central 0
Well, in my first game reporting . . . Sorry to say, but this one was over as soon as it started. Due to the rainy weather and the fact star QB jr. Malik Stokes was out with a knee injury, the Vikings choose to do the opposite thing on offense.... RUN!!! Yes, run, in this one the Vikings ran through Central's defense, piling up 227 yards total in the game. Leading the way for the Vikings was promising jr. RB Tyleel "T.N.T" Taylor, who ran through Central in last year's Thanksgiving game (87 yards on nine carries and two TDs as a soph). This time he rushed for 144 yards on 14 carries and 2 TDs, making runs of 35 and 51 for TDs. Also helping was sr. FB James "Big Country" Rosseau (11-50) and jr. RB Eric Hines (8-33, TD on 7-yard run). As for the quarterbacking, trying to repeat his amazing 2nd half perfomance against rival Frankford (9-14, 91 yards) while making his first PL start was sr. QB Dwight "Bad News" Wheeler. Due to the rain he only made 4 attempts and completed just one of them to sr. WR Jarell Kennedy for 9 yards. The Vikings' defense was amazing, allowing the Lancers only 9 rushing yards on 16 carries. Also helping out on defense was Tennessee-bound WR Je'Ron Stokes, who made one of the two pickoffs for the Vikings. The other was made by jr. CB Eric "Flav" Brundidge and the defense made six tackles for losses. Central was led by QB Devonne Boler, who threw for 66 yards and went 6-12. RB Mike Anhalt rushed for 10 yards on six carries. Also helping was WR Tyquan Jainlett, who rushed four times for four yards, and Boler managed mius-5 yards on six carries. They defense did manage a pick by CB Miles Henry. Overall the Vikings had a pretty good game after a bad Red opener against Frankford. So look out for a pretty good game Saturday night against George Washington at Northeast.
Note: Central's field had no bleachers so all of the spectators (that were allowed in the game) had to move up and down the sidelines  all game to try to follow the action!
