Chestnut Hill Academy’s Jon McAllister Signs with University of Maryland
CHA star baseball player Jon McAllister today signed a letter of intent to play with the University of Maryland Terrapins. Although he considered other schools, he chose Maryland because he liked the coaches and will have a chance to play his first year. Maryland’s head coach, recently transferred from Vanderbilt, is building a new team, and McAllister will be in his first recruiting class.
A 2009 Louisville Slugger H.S. All American, McAllister
racked up some impressive stats during his time at CHA: In his freshman,
sophomore, and junior years, through 89 games,he had 121 hits (school record),
67 stolen bases (school record), 107 runs (school record), a .438 batting
average, and a .612 on-base percentage. In his senior year season to date,
through 17 games, he has had 24 hits (including 7 triples), 18 stolen bases, 22
runs, a .521 batting average, and a .644 on-base percentage.
“Jon is clearly one of the best baseball players in school history,” says
CHA varsity baseball coach and Upper School dean of students Stan Parker.
“Besides baseball, Jon is an outstanding football player and superior athlete.
His presence in our lineup over the past 3 1/2 years has been immeasurable, As a
lead-off hitter he has set the tone for CHA baseball offensively for his entire
tenure. He will be all but impossible to replace. Besides his obvious talents as
a player, Jon is an outstanding team member. He pushes the younger players to
succeed.”
