Ryan
McGinty Dedication

On Jan. 2, 2005, Bishop McDevitt's refurbished gym
was dedicated to the
memory of Ryan McGinty, a sophomore FB-basketball player who died in
April 2003 of cancer. Ryan's family, via the Ryan McGinty Foundation, raised
the funds for the improvements, most notably a hardwood floor.
Here are some photos from that special prayer service . . .

Bishop Joseph McFadden, head of education for
the Archdiocese, conducted the service. Before
joining the priesthood, he was West Catholic's
basketball coach in the 1970s.

Pat Manzi, the athletic director and FB coach, speaks to
everyone about Ryan's energy and enthusiasm.

Ryan's parents and siblings went to midcourt to bounce his practice basketball
one time apiece. His father, Jim, went first, followed by brother Jim, sister Erin
and mom Marianne.

Jim then walked to the end of the gym . . .

. . . and mounted a stepladder to place the ball in a fiberglass case.
A plaque honoring Ryan is right below.
