McDevitt student Mike Smith, aka "Tate", is now in the fold. Lord only knows why (smile). He promises to be entertaining. He sorta promises to be factually correct. Hey, this site is free. Know what I mean? Don't expect miracles from nutty student reporters. |
MARCH 15
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
I know it's been awhile, but I decided to
add my two cents worth.
First off, Neumann is a damn good team. Hats off to them.
They boldly
spanked Dougherty, which I didn't think was going to happen,
then went on to
win the championship by a good margin. Well done.
Also well done to Ryan,
who although didn't win the big game, you did a damn good job
of shutting up
those idiots from the Prep. My personal opinion is that
they thought they
had the game won before going in to it. However, I also
have a bone to pick
with Ryan, not the basketball team, but the hockey team.
Yes, you just read
that correctly, I said HOCKEY. The incident happened on
Tuesday, February
12, 2002. Mcdevitt was losing 6-1 in the third period
when fireworks went
off. Numerous fights were started on the ice. This
game had many firsts in
it. I am not sure, but I think that this is the first
game where someone
was kicked out twice. This was the first game in which a
player straddled
another player, waved to the crowd, then smacked the kid's ass.
This was
also a league first in which two goalies got in a fight.
Needless to say,
the atmosphere was electric. I know that some of these
actions are a little
extreme, but it's hockey folks. There is no reason to get
mad over what
happens on the ice. Which unfortunately, is exactly what
happened. Upon
walking out, a Ryan dad called me "white trash".
Totally uncalled for.
When I got out of the arena, I heard that my fellow fans were
spit upon. I
find it funny that people call me white trash when they are
spitting on
people. Who does that? The answer lies earlier in
my article (clue: it's
in quotations). Baseball season is fast approaching, and
I think that
McDevitt is going to be strong this year. I don't think
anyone will be able
to handle their potent mix of skill on the field and off (bench
chanting).
Also, I think that McDevitt will surprise people, especially
when they see
thier secret weapon who has not played the last two years, yet
he is strong
as ever! This upcoming season, expect to see baseball as
well as track
reports. I will make them much more factual than the
basketball ones.
Also, for the fan tounament, I will be in attendance.

Another tough loss by the Bishop Mcdevitt Lancers. I came to this
game
at like halftime, I think that they started early or
something. This was the
last home game for the seniors -- on the court, and off.
As I walked into the
gym (for free by the way, thanks to the mastermind who
strategically placed a
roll of tape between the doors that lead into the lockeroom, as
to not allow
them to lock), I noticed something that I thought I wouldn't
see -- North was
up by like 12!?! This was a close game however because
the Lancers never
gave up. It seemed that every time that we started to
make a comeback, they
got some play that stopped that run, and then went on a run of
thier own.
It went on like this all night. The closest I think that
McDevitt came was
late in the 4th quarter when Isaiah Pinckney came down, and
boldly hit 2 three-point
shots right in a row. That brought them within 5
points. Then they came
down and scored again, and it was pretty much over.
Truely a heartbreaking
loss, because now McDevitt has no chance of getting in the
playoffs at all.
Bill Holden and Pinckney were on fire all night, and Mike Ross
was grabbin boards very
well. However, it just didn't go their way tonight.
Being the last home
game, this was probably the last night for the Krazy
Korner. I must say,
although we weren't always winning the game, we won every
chanting battle
that we came across. We only chanted against La Salle and
Wood, and
they are pretty weak at chanting, so it was easy. My only
regret this year
is that we didn't get to face the highly acclaimed Abyss and
Looney Bin. I
think that they actually might have posed some competition
towards us. We
actually invented a new way of chanting/heckling, and that is
singing a
song, right in the middle of the game, a full song mind
you! I think this
actually got in the other team's heads. I was as usual,
bustin it up with my
megaphone. Great performances were exhibited tonight by
Fries, Reilly, Fat
Tony (who got the boot mid game), Fatty Matty (also got the
boot), Bundy,
Gutman, Kovach, and an unknown to some, Sean Woods. Sean
Woods was tearin'
it up in chanting, and truly brought a unique flavor to
the Krazy Korner.

CATHOLIC NORTH
La Salle 49, McDevitt 47
A truly sad night for me, for I put my heart and soul
into the
chanting tonight. First I'll get into the game. For
a victory tonight, I
knew that jr. F Mike Ross would have to have a strong night
gettin rebounds and points
from the low post. Also, I knew that sr. G Bill Holden
would have to have a strong
scoring night. Both happened, but unfortunately, to no
avail. The Lancers
lost a heartbreaker tonight, as they lost by two points to
neighborhood
rivals, the La Salle Exporers. The game was very close
throughout, yet in the
third quarter the Lancers were at one point up by eight
points. We were up
by a point or so until late in the fourth quarter when the
Explorers took
the lead. This is when the madness began. In my
humble opinion, the refs
blew a string of calls for in favor of the Explorers. The
Lancers were not
finished yet however! Down by four I believe, the ball
was passed to Holden
in the far corner with about 15 seconds left, he took the shot
and nailed a
clutch three! Then upon inbounding the ball, we fouled
#40 of lasalle. To
his credit, he went to the line and nailed both. Then we
went down court
and got the ball to Ross. He was fouled on the way to
taking a two point
shot, and went to the line. Ross then had to make the
first one, and
miss the second one on purpose, for the clock was down to like
2 seconds.
Poised and confident Ross made the first shot, which was needed
for at least
a chance of victory. Then he pegged the ball at the rim
in an attempt to
get the ball to Mark Finley or Chris Hanes. A very
controversial call was then made
by the ref, in that in the scuffle for the ball, either Hanes
or Finley
fouled an Explorer (I couldn't really see in all the madness),
thus resulting
in an Explorer possesion of the ball. I don't know about
that call in
particular, but throughout the night, the refs were making some
blatantly bad
calls. The only Explorer whose name I know is that of
Matt McGurkin, who is
from the "Center of the Universe" a.k.a.
ORELAND. He had a strong
performance and showed confidence throughout the whole night
despite being
heckled all night by our fans and getting the notorious booooo
chant, in
which we decide a number to booo for the whole night, and Matt
happened to
be it. Now to the fans. A very strong performance
was exhibited from the
Krazy Korner tonight. There was so little opposition to
our fans, it wasn't
even funny. I, as usual, brought my megaphone. I
have heard Byrd's
arguments about the megaphone, and they are strong arguments,
however, what
he doesn't realize is that it is primarily used for the musical
tunes that
it plays such as "charge" and "taps".
The usual great performances can be
granted to Gutman, Bundy, Lennnertz, Kovach, Reilly, Fat Tony,
Maha, and
Rooney (sorry to anyone I forgot). Some great chants
were: "Where is
Marty", "The Marty Jackson song", "Our
Bernie is better" (meaning our janitor
Bernie), "Joe Axford", and "Four Fingered
Louie". It's safe to say that
our fans brought our A game tonight (in chanting). One
way to tell is that I
was out of breath, head throbbing, and my ears hurt.
That's straight up
boldness!
