CYO Basketball 2002

After recent weeks of watching more games and playing in some along with getting many emails about certain teams and players, here are teams, players and other info for 2002:

  1. Probably from what I heard the best team in the state. Presentation is supposed to be the real deal. They recently won a St. Mary of the lakes tournament and from then have been dismantling openers. They are the real deal.
  2. St. Matt’s in the Northeast from what I hear has been a hot team this year. They seem to be a challengeable opponent for Presentation. St Matt’s led by Fat Ringo Gaynor from Father Judge seems to be a good team from all the emails I’ve gotten regarding them.
  3. In Region 15 players that have been outstanding for their teams this are as follows: Denny McGann of Sacred Heart, the point guard from Annunciation I don’t know his name but he is good. Alberger from MDP.
  4. Finally I’m still trying to keep updated with as many player from city teams and teams from all over the Delaware valley please send me any info u can if you would like your stuff posted. And Yes Prep basketball is for real. Jimmy Good is an awesome basketball player.

CYO BASKETBALL
Yes I know I’ve been away for a while, not writing in but here we go here is my masterpiece for this week. I’ve been around and watching some of the CYO games played through the past couple weeks.Unfortunately I cant go to any city games because no one tells me when they are. But I’m making a challenge to any City team wanting to play a suburban team…If you want to play us E-Mail me and I will tell the coaches. My team, St. Katherine, has a whole 2 weeks off before our next game along with many other teams out here would love to play a city team. Let me know so you can stop complaining that I don’t put you guys on here.

Anyway back the basics here are a few notes that I’ve come up with

A recent tournament was hosted by St. Kathrines involving. St. K’s, St. Norbert, St. Francis, St. Agnes, Birdsburogh and St. Max’s. It was a well played tournament with St. Francis and Birdsburough playing in the final. St. Katherines finished in 3rd behind them was St. Norbert, St. Aganes and the St. Max. Birdsborough eventually won it.

I will write back in a week. If u want info on yur team posted let me know and I will. Send me scores and stuff like that I cant get around everywhere.

CYO Basketball the new trend
Recently it has come to my attention that many of our local athletes have begun playing CYO basketball for their respective grade schools. Basketball players come in all shapes and sizes, yet some are not gifted with great skills and yet some just chose not to play for their High School. As a member of a CYO team right now (St. Katherine’s of Siena) and a member of the Prep basketball team for 2 years I can honestly say that playing CYO basketball has been a great experience here are my teams to watch out for this year for the 2001-2002 CYO leagues,
First in PA:

  1. St. Katherine of Siena (Wayne) – St. K’s returns this year as the Region 15 Champions. They have a core of the players back this year. All City wide out Jim Lachman (SJ Prep) returns to man the middle along with fellow football players Tripp Durham (SJ Prep) and John Hurley (SJ Prep). Mike Mailey (SJ Prep) who was dominant in football this year returns to man handle his competition. At point Sean Ryan (Carroll) takes control this year along with Sharpshooter Jim Gillian (Carroll). Katherine’s brings back a good group of players they will be hard to knock out but here are some teams that could do it.
  2. St. Margaret’s (Narberth)- St. Margaret’s could defiantly win it this year. They bring back a lot of talent. Led by John "Bad Boy" Brinkman (SJ Prep), John Connors (SJ Prep), Brian "BC" Collins (SJ Prep) and Lou Talvacchia (SJ Prep) these football players could be tough challenge to overcome. At point they are led by Anthony Coletta (SJ Prep) and Colin Gibson (SJ Prep). The key could be if Maurice Stovall (Carroll) plays for them like he is rumored to be.
  3. OMGC (Bryn Mawr)- A new team this year, last year they combines with Margaret’s. They could be pretty good. Led by Brian Tucci (SJ Prep) and Mike Mooth (SJ Prep) they have the chance to shock. Tucci could be they key if he stays out of foul trouble the big lefty cant be stopped.
  4. Sacred Heart (Manoa)- A quality team led by Dennis McGann (SJ Prep) and Tim Murray (Malvern). Have potential to win it all could be tough with no real big man in the middle. McGann has a nice shoot and could be a dangerous deep threat.
  5. St. Denis (Havertown)- A Shocking team if the decide to play can be ok. Led by junior point guard Joe Dunn (SJ Prep), they could win a few games this year. Adam Hepp (SJ Prep) and Bruno Mongello (SJ Prep) need to provide them with support from the bench and rebounding.
  6. Annunciation- a scrappy team led by Leo Muldoon and Brendon Aurand (SJ Prep), don’t really have it all together. If they get enough people then could win a couple of games.
  7. St. Norbert (Paoli)- Don’t really have any size this year with the loss of Evan Pierce (SJ Prep). A good team led by Kyle Louge (SJ Prep) who can light it up and Andrew DiDimenico (Malvern). Could cause problems
  8. MDP
  9. Coleman Neumann

In NJ,
Burlington County CYO Basketball
1. Our Lady of Good Counsel, Moorestown, NJ
The Chargers look poised to reverse last years trend of only 2 wins, as they appear to be the team to beat in the Burlington County. Coached by Frank "I've Been There" O'Connell and John "The Backbreaker" Foley, these kids combine everything for an all around effort. Point Guard Newcomer Don "The Corn-Rowed Assassin" Hunter and Power Forward P.J. Lance should provide the scoring bulk. Both trained hard in the off-season with the help of Tai Kwon Doo master Dim Sung, and her faithful sidekick Brendan "Saltball" Giblin, a valuable bench player. Wing Guard high flyer Chip "The Dirty Sanchez/Spider" O'Connell will look to provide outside scoring and tenacious defense, although he is prown to foul trouble. Combination Guard John "Spanks/Wannicle" Foley is deadly when left alone outside, and his defense scares small children. If you’re looking for intimidation, gaze no farther than the way of Small Forward John "No Limit" Hickey. His size and strength down low lead many to think one day he will be in school at the next level. Inside grit is presented with the bashing style of none other than Bill "Sexual Lobster" St. Clair. Bill holds down the fort next to long time OLGC team leader Power Forward Mike "I'll be there" Pierce. Rounding out the current players is Shooting Guard Bill "The Bean Burrito" Smith. Smith missed most of training camp but currently is deep into his playbook studying. Small Forward Mattie "Boy" Lucas could pop up at anytime but at the current time has other "commitments." Stay tuned there because if he shows, he is one of the counties top players. Lost to injury for most of the season are Point Guard Mark "Hairy Looch" Condoluci (Torn ACL) and Swing Man Joe "Red Hot" Montgomery (Broken Foot). Both contributed greatly to last years 2-13 success, where Mark led the team in tackles. All in all look for anything to happen with these Chargers.
2. St. Mary of the Lakes "A", Medford, NJ:
The reigning state champs are reeling from graduation, so their season is a toss up, although the edition of should have been All Catholic punter Pete Welsh bodes well for them.
3. St. Joan of Arc, Marlton, NJ:
What can you say about this batch of lunch pail like players? They bring all they have, including a 30 man roster led by the likes of Bob "The Sundance Kid" Cassidy, and Nick "Donovan who?" Vitullo. This team has it all but no one knows what to expect out there in New Jersey.
The rest of the best
4. Sacred Heart, Mount Holly, NJ
5. Holy Eucharist, Tabernacle, NJ
6. St. Mary of the Lakes "B", Medford, NJ
7. Holy Name, Delran, NJ
8. St. Mary of the Lakes "C", Medford, NJ
9. Sacred Heart, Riverton, NJ
10. Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Maple Shade, NJ
