  Forty years ago, Archbishop Wood made its first appearance in the City Title and emerged with
a 20-8 win over Central. But first . . . The Vikings' initial playoff in that season was played vs.
Ryan for the Catholic League Northern Division championship. High-scoring games are common
now, but in 1974, well, just check the headline on the story, by Julius Thompson, that appeared
in The (Philadelphia) Evening Bulletin. The game was played on Nov. 24.
