JUNE 12
PIAA STATE PLAYOFFS
SEMIFINAL
CLASS AAAA
At Coplay American Legion Field
  Delaware Valley 7, Central 1:
The Lancers were no-hit for 4.2 innings. Micah Winterstein then dropped a bloop double just inside the rightfield line and Mike Braun followed with an infield single. Braun stole second and the throw glanced off an infielder's glove into the outfield, allowing Winterstein to score. A walk and error opened the sixth, but the next three batters went out in order. Jared Farbman and Winterstein did Central's pitching. Joshua Fleishman made the best defensive play, jumping above the height of the fence in dead centerfield to prevent a first-inning homer.

JUNE 8
PIAA STATE PLAYOFFS
QUARTERFINAL
CLASS AAAA
At Spring-Ford High
  Central 1, Central Dauphin 0:
Micah Winterstein, a 5-7, 125-pound sophomore righthander, pitched two-hit ball over the first five innings and, using his fielding skills (second base), made five assists to help himself immensely. Jared Farbman then completed the combined three-hitter. The Lancers scored in the home first as Matt Smith led off with a single, moved up on Nick DeLeo's groundout and a passed ball and came around on Farbman's single to right-center. Afterward, the Lancers staged a playful sit-down strike in front of their dugout in an attempt to gain go-to-prom permission for DeLeo (minor school infraction). They even held out their hats and shook them back and forth in we're-begging-you fashion. Dr. Sheldon Pavel, Central's principal, relented. The giddy Lancers swarmed around DeLeo and doused him with water. The prom followed; this game started at 1 o'clock.

JUNE 5
PIAA STATE PLAYOFFS
FIRST ROUND
CLASS AAAA
At La Salle High
Central 10, West Chester Henderson 9:
The Lancers became the first non-basketball team to win in the states, largely on the strength of a seven-run fourth that erased an 8-3 deficit. Joshua Fleishman, Nick DeLeo and Jared Farbman stroked singles for RBI in the frame while Aaron Esbensen lined a run-scoring double and Mike Braun drew a bases-loaded walk. Also, Joe Magdovitz fanned for what should have been the third out. But two runs scored as the catcher could not immediately find the ball and the pitcher then threw it past third. In a three-run second, Winterstein doubled in a run and Fleishman got home TWO by laying down a squeeze bunt on a pitch straight at his head. Winterstein won in relief and Esbensen earned a two-out save.
At Balliet Stadium, in Coplay
Nazareth 16, Frankford 2: The Pub runner-up was humbled in this five-inning game. Nazareth scored 12 in the third inning with the help of nine walks and two hit batsmen. Juan Carlos Torres bagged two of Frankford's six hits.
CLASS AAA
At Northeast
Southern Lehigh 18, Swenson 0: The Lions committed seven errors, leading to 10 unearned runs, in this four-inning game, and managed just one baserunner (Gerald Wolford, walk to lead off home first).
CLASS AA
At Ashburn Field
St. Pius X (Pottstown) 7, GAMP 1: Losing pitcher Andrew Caines collected two hits and the Pioneers' lone run came on Foster McKoskey's sixth-inning groundout.

JUNE 1
PUBLIC LEAGUE FINAL
At Campbell's Field, Camden
  Central 7, Frankford 1:
With nobody out and the bases loaded in the visiting sixth, pitcher Jared Farbman snapped a scoreless tie with a two-run single to right-center. Jim Benek (double) and Micah Winterstein (single) followed with run-scoring hits and an error led to two more runs, giving the Lancers a 6-0 lead and major reason to celebrate. Farbman scattered nine hits and did not lose his shutout until two were out in the seventh (on an infield bobble). Benek finished 3-for-4 with two RBI doubles. Winterstein also went 3-for-4. Benek, the first basemen, made a leaping catch-and-tag play in the second inning, preventing a throwing error that would have staked Frankford to a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers, the three-time defending champs, fell to 84-5 vs. Pub opposition, counting playoffs, over the last five seasons.

MAY 31
CATHOLIC LEAGUE FINAL
At Widener University
  Conwell-Egan 8, SJ Prep 3:
These teams had combined for only one league championship, and C-E's drought had lasted since 1968, when the school was known as Bishop Egan and coach Rich Papirio was a substitute. Brian Herman, as he'd done in the semis, went the distance (five hits, five Ks) as C-E finished 16-0 against CL opposition. He also hammered a run-scoring double. C-E's Ryan Terry (leftfield) and Prep's Matt Leddy (rightfield) both poled two-run homers that barely left the stadium down short lines (300 to LF, 309 to RF). Leddy's homer created a 3-3 tie, then Ed Barry (double) and Rich Dupell (single) collected RBI in the home fourth before John McDonald (single) and Mike Rugghia (double) did likewise in the fifth. The Eagles added an unearned run in the sixth. All 11 runs were scored with two away. The title was Papirio's third, ending a 22-year wait (also '80 and '84 at Ryan.)

MAY 27
CATHOLIC LEAGUE SEMIFINALS
(Doubleheader at Widener University)
  Conwell-Egan 3, Bonner 1:
Brian Herman, the North MVP for the 14-0 Eagles, posted a four-hitter with six strikeouts and helped himself with a single in the home first that keyed a three-run outburst. Ryan Terry (single) and John Malloy (two-run triple) followed with hits, then Malloy ran home on a passed ball. Bonner scored an unearned run in the seventh and had runners on first and third with two out when Herman recorded a looking strikeout to end it.
SJ Prep 3, La Salle 2: With two out and two men on base in the home seventh, and just after star lefthander Matt Zielinski replaced T.J. Foley, Nelson Russom lined a two-run double off the base of the rightfield fence to hand the Hawks the dramatic win. Tim Edger and Tom Elliott (two outs, two strikes) had singled. Russom also singled to drive in a third-inning run. Doug DiSandro allowed five hits, and both runs were scored by guys who drew walks (thanks to Sean Saverio's double and Ryan Creter's single).

Jared Carter (triple) and Steve Ullrich (sac fly) added RBI.
Bonner 7, O'Hara 3: The Friars spotted upstart O'Hara a 3-0 lead, then roared back behind the likes of Mike Coleman (two-run single) and Matt Gallagher (two-run double).
