Players on Archbishop Carroll High's
varsity and junior varsity baseball teams competed in the
First Annual Charity Bat-A-Thon on the varsity field on Saturday, May 13th.
The team raised over $1,000.00 from pledges and donations. All proceeds
will be given to The
Mother’s Home in Darby, PA. The Director is James J. Thomas.
Junior CF Pete Coppa said, "It was a fun day. We had a great time
competing against each other
and it was a neat experience to get to use our talents as baseball players to
really make a difference.”
Coppa added, “We hope the donations help make it easier for the mothers
to make a good start to
raising their families. The team is looking forward to doing it again next
year."
Junior Pitcher/1B Kyle Baker wears the crown as the inaugural
Bat-A-Thon Champion by earning a
total of 65 points in five rounds. Baker hit four home runs and totaled 26
points in the final match-up
where he outlasted a surprise runner-up, freshman CF Nick Szalejko.
Szalejko tallied 38 points on
the day. Senior Captain/SS Steve Brouwers scored the 2nd highest total
with 40 points.
