Riverside 12, Ocean City 0: The teams opted to meet after both
finished the regular season at 9-0 and Riverside was declared the South
Jersey champion by the NJISAA. Riverside scored one TD apiece in
the third and fourth quarter and won the first down battle, 16-11. OC
advanced no closer than Riverside's 33.1975

SEMIFINAL
Pleasantville 19, Ocean City 6: Mike Linahan (23 carries, 62 yards)
ran for a third quarter touchdown. That score ended Pleasantville's
streak of 27 consecutive shutout quarters.

SEMIINAL
Deptford 24, Ocean City 15: The Red Raiders allowed more than twice as
many points than they had in their previous games. The highlight was a
TD on a trick-play pass from Tim Chatburn and Al Burch.
1984

SEMIFINAL
Ocean City 15, Deptford 8: Following a fair catch by Dave Miller at
Deptford’s 35, OC decided to take advantage of a little known
rule. With no one rushing, two-way tackle Fritz Ferrell drilled a
45-yard field goal off a kickoff tee, thus raising the lead to 15-0.
Frank Sayers and Bobby Krokenberger notched rushing TDs.
FINAL
Ocean City 22, Willingboro 21: The Red Raiders (10-1, school record
for victories) claimed their first sectional crown as Dave Miller raced
59 yards for go-ahead-for-good TD. Earlier, he'd fumbled a kickoff and
was thrilled to achieve redemption. Nose tackle John Murphy recovered a
fumble and made two big stops (TFL, sack) to thwart a fourth quarter
drive.

SEMIFINAL
Willingboro 25, Ocean City 18: Leon Brown’s third rushing TD brought
the Raiders within 19-18, but Willingboro answered with a score and OC’s
final drive resulted in an interception at the 16 with four seconds
left.
1989

SEMIFINAL
Woodrow Wilson 20, Ocean City 16: TD runs by Dom Iannace (also two
PATs) and Doug Colman, three minutes apart, enabled the Red Raiders to build
a 16-point lead. Alas, Wilson's Norman Frisbey, injured in the first half,
returned to action in the fourth quarter and claimed the SJ record for
season passing TDs with 26. Teammate Marvin Goodwin rushed for a crucial TD while
upping his season point total to 170.
1992

SEMIFINAL
Lacey Twp. 14, Ocean City 13: After Heath Muzslay ran five yards for
a TD with just under four minutes remaining, the Red Raiders went for two.
Danny Davis slipped shortly into his run and could not make it into the
end zone. The other TD went to Anthony Constantine with 29 seconds left
in the first quarter.

SEMIFINAL
Central Regional 13, Ocean City 10: The Red Raiders went down to
defeat after taking a 10-0 lead on James Wyers' 25-yard field goal and
Josh Baker's 16-yard run. Baker set up that drive with an interception.
1995

SEMIFINAL
Mainland 21, Ocean City 16: Matt LeFever fired a TD pass to Steffon
Davis, thus advancing OC within 21-16 with 3:05 remaining.
Kevin Sinclair, who earlier had scored his 30th TD of the season on a
26-yard run, lost a fumble in the late going.
1996

SEMIFINAL
Ocean City 45, Washington Twp. 7: Kevin Sinclair (24-101) rushed for
four TDs and Matt LeFever (9-for-14, 223) passed for three, all to Scott
Lipford (8-203) as OC frolicked.
FINAL
Ocean City 27, Shawnee 7: Though the game was played in a steady
downpour, Kevin Sinclair exploded for 276 yards and all four TDs on 35
carries as tthe Red Raiders stormed to victory, claimed the best record
in school history (11-0) and earned the No. 1 spot
on the Courier-Post's final Top 10. Sinclair expanded his South Jersey
career yardage total to 5,372. Said Shawnee coach Tim Gushue, "He
lookeed great on film and I don't know if the film did him justice."

SEMIFINAL
Mainland 9, Ocean City 7: After beating Mainland two weeks earlier,
the Red Raiders committed six turnovers in this one. Ray Rogers provided
a 7-3 lead with a 96-yard score on a kickoff return.
1998

QUARTERFINAL
Ocean City 26, Lakewood 20: The Red Raiders thrice fell behind, but
won it with two TDs in the fourth quarter.
SEMIFINAL
Ocean City 28, Delsea 7: Austin Martin ran for 136 yards and two TDs
as OC knocked Delsea from the ranks of the unbeaten. Jared Toscano for
things started with a 9-yard TD run. Al Genz' 29-yard TD pass to Jared
Toscano won it with 1:45 remaining.
FINAL
Ocean City 34, Toms River South 18: Austin Martin concluded his
career by turning 27 carries into 217 yards and three TDs as OC won 11
games (one loss) for the second time in three seasons. Jared Toscano also
notched a rushing score. TRS, which finished the season with 410 points,
entered the game unbeaten.

QUARTERFINAL
Ocean City 40, Lacey Twp. 13: Brian Coggins fueled this rout by
rushing for 130 yards and five TDs on 14 carries. Adam Martin (103) also
topped 100 yards. Five LT mainstays had to leave the field due to
injuries. SEMIFINAL
Ocean City 20, Moorestown 14: In a rare show of almost perfect
balance. Brian Coggins, Jared Toscano and Adam Martin rushed for 90, 92
and 87 yards, respectively. Ricky Henshaw clinched the win with a late
interception.
FINAL
Ocean City 21, Mainland 18: The sixth-seeded Red Raiders bumped off
No. 1 Mainland while using a new offense . . . and holding their breath
as a late attempt at a field goal was unsuccessful. That occurred shortly
after Joe Foster intercepted a pass in the end zone, ran out beyond the
goal line and then retreated for an automatic safety. Al Genz passed for
one TD and ran for another, OC also lost a TD due to an inadvertent
whistle.

Ocean City 20, Mainland 0: Ryan Taylor (pass from Ken Hannah), Ricky
Henshaw (3-yard run) and Hannah (88-yard run) scored the TDs.
SEMIFINAL
Ocean City 35, Edgewood 34: Jim Thomas made the tackle on a two-point
conversion run to clinch the win with 6:43 renaining. Steve Cook rushed
for 173 yards and two scores. Edgewood. in its final season before
becoming Winslow Twp., rallied from a 28-0 deficit.
FINAL
Delsea 35, Ocean City 22: The Red Raiders fell short in their bid for
a third consecutive sectional title and fourth in five years. Ricky
Henshaw passed for three TDs, all to different receivers.
2001

QUARTERFINAL
Ocean City 21, Lacey Twp. 14: James Thomas rushed for 155 yards and
two TDs on 20 carries while Andrew Love recorded OC's first passing
score of the season. LT's last possession ended at the Red Raiders' 37
with 1:56 left after four consecutive incompletions.
SEMIFINAL
Egg Harbor Twp. 7, Ocean City 3: EHT had lost to OC 10 conseutive
times, but won this one while allowing no TDs for quarters No. 20
through 23. Dan Kennard drilled a 24-yard field goal.
2005

QUARTERFINAL
Lacey Twp. 17, Ocean City 14: A late field goal made the difference.
OC's highlight was Dan Bonato's score on an 81-yard kickoff return.
2008

Lacey Twp. 6, Ocean City 0: LT won it in overtime as the Red Raiders
suffered their second-ever playoff shutout, counting a special showdown
with Riverside in 1931.

Delsea 56, Ocean City 34: Delsea survived despite allowing at least
30 points for the fourth time in the season. Isaac Robertson scored
three TDs for OC, the first two on runs and and No. 3 on a reception.
2018

QUARTERFINAL
Highland 28, Ocean City 14: The Red Raiders lost a fumble on a
fourth-and-1 play at the goal line with 1:13 remaining, then Highland
salted away the win with a 92-yard TD run.
2019

QUARTERFINAL
Ocean City 21, Mainland 14: Joe Repetti's 33-yard TD run expanded the
lead 14 points, but a fumble recovery inside the 5 in the final minute
of play was needed to ice the victiory.
SEMIIFINAL
Ocean City 21, Long Branch 20: Joe Repetti tallied on a 10-yard run
and Brendan McGonigle kicked the decisive PAT. Once again, the win was
sealed by a late fumble recovery.
FINAL
Shawnee 28, Ocean City 0: The Renegades pitched a shutout while
winning their third consecutive sectional crown. |
