PUBLIC LEAGUE
Lincoln 63, Washington 62
Just looking at the score of this game
makes you think it was one hell of an exciting game. The bleachers were filled
plenty by fans from both Washington and Lincoln for what ended up being a
showdown till the end. With both teams in pursuit for a spot in the playoffs
each team was looking for a win to seal the deal. As the game got underway there
was back to back scoring going on throughout the first quarter. With the
aggressiveness and speed of Lincoln, and Washington’s ability to answer back,
the score remained close. Lincoln Sr G Brian Simmons was very impressive
throughout the game but particularly in the first quarter. He scored on a
in-bound pass that was thrown to him across the whole court. A few plays later
he drove to the hoop with a quick spin move and laid it up for 2 points. As the
game progressed it got even more intense. Interesting 1st quarter fact: At the
end of it, Washington's Damon Harper and Lincoln's David Goldsmith,
both #44, had the most rebounds for their teams. Through the 2nd quarter the
game remained the same. It was always close and there was great play on both
sides of the court. At halftime the Eagles received a Special Guest by the name
of Susan Branca from Allstate Insurance. She donated $500 to the Eagles
Basketball program. Thank you, Susan!!! Play continues. Off the bench comes Sr C
Jimere Parker. He's a player who hasn't seen much time, but he made a
hell of a lot out of his time in this game. He sure made a name for himself by
playing very well. With his limited minutes he had 6P, brought down 8 boards and
had a helluva block. His play definitely stood out. Other players worth
recognition: Sr G Damon Harper, who recorded a double-double. He scored 12P
which came along with his 10 rebounds. The only other player to have a
double-double in this game was Sr C Tyrone Bolden, who had 17P with 10
rebounds. This guy played like Shaq, not only because of the numbers he put up,
but because he struggled to make a Foul Shot (3-11). Brian Simmons fell short of
the double-double. He scored 14P, 3Ast but just missed with his 9 rebounds. With
half the time gone in the 3rd the Eagles took their first lead of the game. They
played great defense all throughout the game grabbing rebounds and blocking
shots. The ball-swatter of the day was Jr F Miguel Bocachica, who had two
blocks in this one. He finished the game with 9 points and 5 rebounds. With only
a second left to go in the 3rd it was Lincoln’s ball. They inbounded to Sr G
Brandon Bowes, who chucked up a shot from about 35 feet near the
out-of-bounds line. AMAZINGLY, the shot was good. The crowd went wild. I
personally couldn’t believe it went in. An impressive stat this guy accomplished
was shooting 100% from the line on this day. He went 8-8. He finished the game
with 23 points. As the game entered its final quarter Lincoln was on top, but
the score was very close. The quarter consisted of many turnovers, fast ball
movement, and plenty of scoring. With time diminishing the Eagles needed to
answer back quickly. They were down by as much as 6 and Lincoln looked like they
weren’t going to be giving up anytime soon. With 29.1 seconds left the Eagles
are down 4 looking to score some fast points. They pass the ball to Jr G
Andrew Goodman, who puts in the layup. “AND 1!” With less that 30 seconds
remaining and being only down 2 points now the Eagles were relying on Andrew to
make this free throw. CLUTCH is the only word that could describe this sequence
by Goodman. Now Washington was in position to win the game. All they needed to
do was intentionally foul Lincoln and then take the ball up and only the ball
could determine their destiny. But the Eagles seemed to have trouble getting the
ball in the hoop. Now being down 3 after both foul attempts were made by Lincoln
the Eagles needed a 3 to win. With about 10 seconds left Soph F Will
McFillin gets the ball. He shoots! Misses! Lincoln gets the rebound and the
game is just about over with only 1.5 seconds left after an intentional foul.
The point is the game ends there, The Eagles lose by 3, RIGHT??!! At least
that’s what we THOUGHT! The final score of yesterday’s game is Lincoln 63,
Washington 62. What ever happened to those 2 other points that the Eagles were
down by?! Where did the scoreboard at the game go wrong!? Who knows!? But the
end of this story could have been different, with maybe even a Washington
victory if the scoreboard was right. Just imagine if the Eagles weren’t focusing
on tying the game on a three point attempt but imagine them going for the win
with a 2 point attempt. What could have happened or what would have happened we
will never know.

PUBLIC LEAGUE
Washington 70, Olney 63
The Washington Eagles (5-5) against the Olney Trojans (1-8) may
not have been one of the TOP Pub games of the week but those who attended
witnessed a tough, and hard fought battle between these two squads. With Olney
winning the tip the game got underway. It started off quite slow with plenty of
reach-in fouls and travels being called. As a matter of fact the score after the
first few minutes was 2-1 Olney with both teams scoring their points via The
Free Throw Line. After the slow start both teams stepped up their game and
started the action with all around impressive play. Washington took an 8-7 lead
shortly after with a splendid pass from Sr G Jarel Barnwell to Jr F
Miguel Bocachica. Miguel gets the basket AND the Foul. The infamous “AND 1”
gave Miguel three points. But the excitement continues! Both teams showed great
perseverance with fast scoring and beautiful plays. One thing this game didn’t
lack was ball movement. The 1st half consisted of back to back fast scoring with
assist after assist. Jarel showed off his passing talents once again (finished
with 4P 1R 7 AST) with a great pass to Sr G Damon Harper who also
completed the “AND 1”. Damon played well in this game, not only contributing
with his points but with his rebounds. Although fouling out before the game was
over, he ended with 13P 5R and 2AST. Olney answered back with great ball
movement against the Washington full court press. With time running out and
half time approaching, the Eagles attempted to put the half’s last points on the
board . The shot attempt was no good, but Soph F Will McFillin grabs the
rebound with a second left and puts up a fade away prayer as time expired. AND
IT'S GOOD! Both McFillin and Jr G Andrew Goodman were big contributors
for the Eagles off the bench. Both of these players not only controlled the ball
well but interfered with the ball control of Olney. Both players finished with 2
steals apiece. Miguel Bocachica was the only other player for the Eagles
contributing in the steals column, with 2 steals as well. McFillin ended with
12P 2R and 1AST. Goodman ended the game with 9P 1R and 1AST. It seems to me that
Goodman has stepped up his game ever since he got a “new look.” He has scored at
least 9 points in the last 4 games. And coincidentally it was four games ago
that he decided to bring out the “frohawk”. Miguel showed great composure. After
seeing him play in the first part of the season and seeing how he’s been playing
now it’s as if he’s put his whole game through a transformation.. He ended the
game with 23P 9R and 2AST. Looking at that points total must make you think a
lot of shots taken. But that’s not the case. Miguel passed the ball often and
scored in the paint when getting the ball on excellent passes from his guards.
Getting the 2nd half started the Eagles continued their scoring, forcing the
Trojans to call an early time out with 6:39 remaining in the 3rd after the
Eagles went on a 7-0 run. The Eagles pushed their lead up to a game high of 20
points! Here was where it got interesting. Don’t doubt those Olney Trojans. They
were led in scoring by Sr G Joey Scott, who displayed excellent drives to
the hoop. He drove hard to the basket finishing with 20P. He was assisted by his
teammate Micah Fisher, who played marvelously. He was the Jason Kidd
of Olney. He helped Joey and the Trojans come all the way back from a 20-point
deficit to get within 4 points of the Eagles. Fisher ended the game with
notable numbers, 19P 6R 6AST and a block. I was very impressed with the way he
played since he contributed to his team’s effort in almost every category. Both
Joey and Fisher earned points at the line where they rarely missed a free throw
attempt. The Eagles fought till the end and kept their lead and got the W.
Although Olney is not so much in the Playoff hunt this season, don’t count them
out of ruining another team’s chance for the playoffs. This tough Trojan team
can beat any team on any day in the Pub. Good Luck to both teams in their
upcoming games.

Rosenberg, Andrew Tepel, and Mike LaRose. Without these guys, getting
