Philadelphia Athletics . . . By the Numbers

Introduction
The Philadelphia Athletics represented the City of Brotherly Love between 1901 and 1954.  They were the most successful professional sports franchise in the city – in any sport – for the past Century.
The A’s won nine American League pennants and five World’s Championships under the leadership of Connie Mack – Baseball’s “Grand Old Man”.

Philadelphia has the dubious distinction of being the only Major League baseball city where the most successful franchise was removed to another city.
I undertook this project of tracking down the uniform numbers of every player who ever wore an A’s uniform with a number on it in the mid-90’s.  It is still a work in progress.
The A’s wore numbers on their road uniforms beginning in 1931 and their home uniforms beginning April 20, 1937.
The following list includes several players that appeared in an A’s uniform in games in spring training or exhibitions, but never in a big league box score.  You’ll note several players wore several different numbers.  That’s just the way it was back then.

Thanks for help with this compilation goes to Don Moore, Al Sweigart, Carl Goldberg, Max Silberman, Ernie Montella, Herb Gorenstein, Bob Composto and the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
