Comments . . .

Whoa, what a blowout! This reminds me of my senior year playing for Mastbaum. Although the Pub started out on top with a fairly good drive that Franklin's Maurice Dantzler concluded with a great 12 yard touchdown run, they were given all they could handle and more. The Pub was putting the Non-Pub to shame as their defense denied them a first quarter touchdown. In the second quarter the Non-Pub took over as they found a solid running back to carry the load in Mike Varanavage, who took the game by storm. He and his teammates put together a great drive and ended it with a touchdown run by Daniel Chavis and it was all downhill from there. On the Non-Public side was a very polished and finely tuned quarterback who has all the fundamentals and mechanics to play at the next level. Yes, I am talking about Justin DeCristofaro, who had a great game (12-22-0 -- 149). Along with DeCristofaro's arm were great recievers such as Bill Edger (6-128) and John Maddox (4-38) who made a great catch over two of the Pub's defenders in a jaw-dropping play. The Pub did answer back on offense with some nicely thrown passes from Mastbaum's own Chris Bennett, and not to mention a pure speed show put on by Akeem Johnson as he outran a defender for a 42-yard pass from Bennett. Terrance Sample also played well as he showed some great moves on kick return and on a few of his catches. Erik Frazier, who seemed to have the ball the whole game, played exceptionally well. As for the Pub's defense, the story is A-Train (Aaron Washington); he played like an absolute maniac with his 12 tackles. He also had help from Eikeem Barron, Marquis Clark, and Sterling Johnson as they racked up tackles with A-Train. I couldn't end this without mentioning the Non-Pub's defense, which ruled the field like football gods. First off I would like to tip my hat to Rockeed McCarter, who had a blocked punt for a touchdown -- great hustle. Next I would like to say that Charlie Noonan is a monster at D-Tackle and showed tremendous speed as he hawked down plays (even passing plays) to make tackles, Aaron Pryer also showed a lot of heart on defense. Last but not least we mustn't forget about Colin Wixted, who played great on both sides of the ball as he dragged defenders and Tackled offenders (offense). Jim McKenzie also played  a solid game at offensive tackle.

I was truly honored to play for the Non-Public in the 2006 Philly City All
Star Game. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I want to thank
Coach Fluck, Coach Vern (LB coach) and all of the other coaches for making
it such a memorable time. Playing with the best guys in the city, most of
whom were obviously wearing white jerseys on Saturday, was a tremendous
opportunity. The friendships I made and dominating the Pub in front of
family, friends and 4,000 others will be something I will remember for the
rest of my life. Being apart of such a rich tradition of football excellence
sure beats a senior prom any day! 42-13 boys. Here's hoping the Non-Pub is
victorious for years and years to come. Thanks again to my teammates,
coaches, and game coordinators for making this such a special event.
