SJ Prep . . . 2019 PIAA Class 6A State Champs! On Dec. 7, at Hersheypark
Stadium, St. Joseph's Prep beat Central Dauphin, 35-13, to
capture its second consecutive state championship, fifth over seven years
and first under rookie coach Tim Roken. The
Hawks were led by Kolbe Burrell, who rushed 25 times for 190 yards
and two TDs; on the first he raced 55 yards untouched to the end zone. Also,
Malik Cooper, in game No. 4 as the replacement for injured starter Kyle McCord,
passed 9-for-14 for 95 yards and one TD apiece to Sahmir Hagans and
Marvin Harrison. The latter became the fifth player in Catholic
League history to reach 1,000 receiving yards in one season (1,033) and his
15 receiving TDs left him one short of the CL record (16 by Dougherty's
Mickey King in 2000). A defensive TD was scored when Sean Walker
blocked a punt and Maurice Clark sprinted 20 yards to the end zone.
Liam Johnson (13) and Julian Talley (10) reached double digits
in tackles and the former recorded four sacks. |
The Hawks celebrate their championship.
