The Hermits scored the game's first TD on Ron Jackon's 2-yard run. That

St. Joseph (Hammonton) 15, St. Augustine 8: The Hermits lost the
total yardage battle, 234-154, even though it ran 25 more plays. This
was the teams' second meeting of the season. SA won the first, 21-7. A
missed 30-yard field goal set up the Hermits' TD; the ball hit a SJ
player while still in the field of play and the Hermits recovered at the
8. Dan Flamma scored two plays later from the 3, then added a conversion
run to provide an 8-7 lead.

SEMIFINAL
St. Augustine 10, St. Joseph (Hammonton) 6: The Hermits scored the
first 10 points thanks to a 37-yard run by Johnny Carter (15-118) and
PAT/FG by Geoff Allen. The win was preserved in the waning moments when
Phil Brunozzi recovered an onsides kick.
FINAL
St. Augustine 30, St. Mary (Rutherford) 8: In year No. 7 of the
program's existence, third-year coach Frank Fucetola steered the Hermits
to the state championship. The absence of star rusher Johnny Carter
proved to be no problem as Delray Pointer (18-123, two) and Dan Flamma
(14-119) combined for three TDs. Jesse Cornely attempted just three
passes, but one was a 64-yard TD to T.J. Meyers.
2001

QUARTERFINAL
St. Joseph (Montvale) 42, St. Augustine 6: The Hermits surrendered
the first 21 points and could not battle back into contention. Their
score, off a fake punt, came on a 60-yard pass from Jeff Hoover to
Jamaal Forman.
2008

QUARTERFINAL
St. Augustine 21, Notre Dame 17: The Hermits seized this win with the
help of a 15-3 edge in the second half. Bill Giberson returned a punt 50
yards for a TD and Dustin Thomas (7-for-14, 148) connected with Gabe
Voumard (5-119) for a 79-yard score. Linebacker Matt Piotrowicz'
last-minute interception ended the drama.
SEMIFINAL
Bergen Catholic 42, St. Augustine 0: This one was over by halftime
(35-0). Bill Giberson managed to turn three catches into 75 yards.
2009

QUARTERFINAL
Seton Hall Prep 49, St. Augustine 14: Both teams entered with 8-0
records, but SHP won in going-away fashion after the Hermits scored
first on Gabe Voumard's 31-yard interception return. They also scored
last, again thanks to Voumard (6-yard pass from Justin Thomas).
2012

QUARTERFINAL
Don Bosco Prep 42, St. Augustine 14: The Hermits' TDs were provided
by rusher Calvin Cass (35-84). A week earlier, he'd rushed for 226 yards
and six TDs as the Hermits waffled Pleasantville, 42-12, for the
program's 100th victory.
2013

QUARTERFINAL
St. Augustine 45, St. Joseph (Metuchen) 28: Junior Lamont Harris
slapped together an all-time performance, rushing 40 times for 330 yards
and four TDs while adding three catches for 45 yards. The 330 total was
just six yards short of the most ever by a Cape-Atlantic player. SA
trailed, 28-24, heading into the fourth quarter. Harris ran for the
final three scores. Tyler Capille racked up three sacks and recovered a
fumble to set up the score that created a 10-point lead. Kyle Snow
contributed nine points on six PAT and a field goal.
SEMIFINAL
St. Peter's Prep 34, St. Augustine 0: Down by just 7-0, the Hermits
twice failed to convert red zone vistis in the second quarter. Jonathan
Hilliman scampered 54 yards on the first play beyond halftime for one of
his three six-pointers.

QUARTERFINAL
Don Bosco Prep 42, St. Augustine 21: Four of DBP's six TDs covered
more than 25 yards and the highlight was a 98-yard pick six. Lamont
Harris churned for 187 yards on 40 carries and scored one TD. He also
tallied on a 60-yard pass from Jose Tabora, who added a rushing score.
2015

QUARTERFINAL
St. Joseph (Montvale) 28, St. Augustine 0: This result was quite the
eyebrow-raiser -- the top-seeded Hermits were 8-0 and hosting a playoff
for the first time since 2009. One bright tidbit: Kyle Dobbins gained
108 yards on 24 carries. That performance raised his season total 1,382,
most ever by a Cape-Atlantic sophomore.
2016

QUARTERFINAL
Bergen Catholic 57, St. Augustine 33: TDs on its fnal six possessions
of the first half gave BC a 50-13 lead. This result was particularly
shocking because SA had won every game by at least 17 points. Josh Zamot
passed for two TDs. Josh Ennis rushed for two scores while adding a
third on a reception.

QUARTERFINAL
Bergen Catholic 56, St. Augustine 21: Chris Allen pinpointed Xavier
File for a pair of touchdowns and Shamere Collins experienced quite the
thrill, thanks to a 95-yard kickoff return.

St. Joseph (Montvale) 16, St. Augustine 8: The Hermits did hang tough
against New Jersey's second-ranked powerhouse, Their score was provided
by Charles Chiango, thanks to a 72-yard interception return.

St. Augustine 20, Seton Hall Prep 14: One play after SHP took its
first lead, Austin Leyman connected with Carnell Davis for an 80-yard
score. Isaiah Raikes and Leyman posted rushing TDs.
SEMIFINAL
St. Peter's Prep 35, St. Augustine 28: The Hermits yielded the
final 14 points after taking the lead on Austin Leyman's 5-yard TD pass
to Carnell Davis and Kenneth Selby's 45-yard interception return. Kanye
Udoh rushed for 138 yards and one TD. |
