We would like to thank the following people:
Lloyd Sixsmith Sporting Goods, especially Ed
Lloyd Sixsmith Sporting Goods, a long-time
fixture at 7554 Frankford Ave., was our sponsor and again did a great job with the
T-shirts.
When you stop in or call (215-624-6670) the store, please mention that
you appreciated "Sixsmith's" involvement. Thank you!!
Ramp Playground -- Ed Carpenter.
Assorted referees -- Brian Duross, Tim Dougherty, Ryan "Goose" Nase,
John "Fat Ringo" Gaynor, Dan "Salamander" McLaughlin, Tim Smink and
maybe others I forget for the moment.
Scorekeepers -- Ed "Huck" Palmer, Bill Smith, Brian Duross.
Timers -- Kevin Silary, Ed "Huck" Palmer.
Organizational staff -- Ryan "Goose" Nase, John "Fat Ringo"
Gaynor.
Concession stand -- Kristen Silary, Anne Pacchiano.
Special thanks -- To everyone who participated, and especially to those who came back
for the second day of action. The Wood guys, especially, were big-time clutch. All players
and coaches were in attendance both days!! The guys even stayed around to watch the title
game. Extraordinary.
Impressive gesture -- The Prep kids decided not to vote for MVP honors. As one put
it, "There's no need to pick an MVP.
We were all in this together." I gave the trophy to the team. Maybe they can put
it in the school's trophy case. I'm sure that
would go over great (smile).

The Champions of Fan Tourney '02
SJ Prep
L to R -- Steve Gallagher, Brendan Kelly, Joe Paull, Bill Khoury, John
Brinkman, Liam Woods, Brian
Collins, Bill Smith. (Donald Hunter and Dennis McGann played Saturday, but were
unavailable Sunday.)

POST-TOURNAMENT COMMENTS . . .
Well the Prep continues to win just about
everything athletic in the Catholic League. I just wanted to thank everyone who came
down for the tournament it was a lot of fun. I espically want to thank the Wood kids
you guys live real far away on the farms (Just kidding) but you came down 2 days in a row.
I also wanted to say THANK YOU to Brian Duross and Tim Dougherty for
reffing the games today even through my constant heckling (It was all in fun though) and
they didn't do a bad job. Ted I think I know why we didn't like the Wood kids during
the season, Because they are exactly like us. They are smartasses and huge ball
busters. But when they do it to someone else it is hilarious. I guess they're
alright. smile. I also wanted to thank you Ted for somewhat controlling the
madness of the tournament. And by giving all of us an outlet to talk about high
school sports. But as always I will not admit defeat I believe that if the rain had
not come down and we had our full squad form the dya before the tournament would have been
ours. So Prep wins by default.
---- GOOSE
(Ted's note: Thank YOU, Goose. You did all the behind-the-scenes
work. It indeed would have been interesting to see what would
have happened without rain.)
Well the Fan Tournament was a huge
success. Day one was great with a ton of people showing up. It is a shame that
it had to rain and that certain teams were not the same the next day. I was quite
impressed with the turnout of all the teams especially Bonner, WOOD, and Prep who all may
not live too close. Ted, thank you very much, it was a great time and I hope you can
keep it up for many years to come. Judge guys, maybe we'll win a National College
Fan Tournament someday in the Future. As long as we don't play any Ivy League
schools with the Prep or any schools with Ted Murphy and his boys.
Thanks again Ted,
---- John "Fat Ringo" Gaynor
P.S. -- Yo Koz, those 3's in the consolation game were a
masterpiece. I have never seen the ball hit the backboard so hard and go in.
(Ted's note: Thanks, FR. I also hope we can keep it going. I just
wish so many other things didn't get in the way -- proms, trips, spring sports, weather,
etc. It will be tough to find two guys with the kind of passion that you and Goose have
exhibited.)
Ted,
thanks to you and everyone who was involved in orgainizing the fan tourney it
was alot of fun and a great experience. i agree wit Nase that the reason we prob didnt
like them so much was because we are pretty much the same. i would like to thank him for
all the work he did for the tourney (yes a wood kid is thanking a judge kid)...and i want
to also give him some credit he is a solid athlete and a pretty good basketball player...i
am going to agree with him again and say if it did not rain we probably would have seen a
Wood - Judge final which would have been interesting. i think this because we shot alot
better yesterday than today as the stats indicate...but if that final would have happened
would this mutual respect between judge and wood have been reached??.....well thansk again
for a great season and a fun weekend to everyone involved....
---- Blair Klumpp
(Ted's note: One of the great joys of the Fan Tourney is watching kids
come together and realize, hey, they're just like us. I see it every year with the City
All-Star FB Game. Enemies get thrown onto the same team and become friends. Friends for
life, in some cases. Thanks for being part of things, Blair. I do miss the 'fro, though --
smile.)
Ted,
who won the deep sub showdown, Big Joe or Skip?
---- anonymous
(Ted's note: Skip was there Saturday, but did not return Sunday.)
Hello, my name is Matt Erbele, and I played on the Bishop
McDevitt team for
the Lloyd Sixsmith Fan Tournament on Saturday, April 13, 2002.
If you dont
remember who I am, I am #3, the one who was ejected from the
McDevitt vs.
Wood game. I for one am pretty pissed that I was ejected
because I think I
had the right push and elbow the members of the opposing team.
The reason I
think this way is because Wood had people on their team that
played
basketball, and the whole point of a fan tournament is for the
fans to show
what they can, so I made up for this atrocity fouling as much
as possible.
The players already had that chance during the season, that is
why I feel no
remorse for my actions. Also, I saw a lot of Wood guys
there that talked a
lot of trash during the basketball games but didnt say a word
during the fan
tournament. Air horn guy talks a lot trash but then doesnt back
it up when
he meets people in person. And Troiese, or
however the hell you spell ur name, you like a real hard ass
cutting your
shirt as soon as you get it.
---- McDevitt Football!, kick some ass 2002
(Ted's note: Pat Thompson was a starter for Wood in '01,
but didn't play this past season. Supposedly, Kevin Crooks
played varsity at a suburban public school, but not at Wood
after transferring back in. We didn't have that covered in
the rules. AHG never said boo to anybody, that I saw. His
e-mail address was posted all season and assorted knuckleheads
gave him all kinds of abuse . . . Meanwhile, we were pretty pissed
that you had no intent to actually play basketball. Why'd you
bother, Matt?)
Yo Fat Ringo,
Thanks for the compliment, usually I just close my eyes and shot it as hard
as possible and hope it goes in. I would like to take this oppurtunity to thank you Ted
for everything you have done for us in our years as high schoolers. You have truly added
another dimension to the numeous sports seasons which makes the games even more fun to
play when you read all the stuff we talk on this site. Without this site I would never
even know half of these guys, but thanks to it you really get to know a lot of great guys
and there is almost a sort of bond around the catholic league and yes the prep is even
included in that. Most people would probably think that you were crazy for puttin a bunch
of teenage boys who already had a dislike for each other on the same basketball court. Ted
you truly are a peacemaker. I want to also thanks Fat Ringo and Goose for all they have
done. I think that in the last few years we have all set a standard for fans, I'm not sure
that anyone can follow in our footsteps but these last few years will go down as some
of the best ever for high school spirit in all sports. To Brownie, Goose, Fat Ringo, Kev
Hanlon, A. Ryan, Air Horn, T Suds, and all those great fans thanks to you all we have
truly made our high school years memorable.
---- Fat Fat Koz
(P.S. I vote T Suds as MVP of the tourney. He played on a weak Roman team and was gettin
no calls, and He is very graceful on the court.)
(Ted's note: Koz, you continue to impress me with your outlook and
maturity. You truly do "get it." As your life continues beyond high school, I
wish you nothing but the best. The Bonner guys had to come a long way to play in the
tourney. I know you were the driving force behind Bonner's team.)
Dear Fat Ringo,
I got nothing against you, but it
wouldn't be fair to say accurate and
you reffing abilities in the same sentence. In fact, none
of the refs were
calling anything. I would rather be playing under the
watchful eye of Red
beard then be reffed by you guys(and for the record, I hate Red
beard, who
actually is able to ref all sports, and suck at doing them all
too).
However, I know that you guys aren't professional or anything,
so I really
don't care. That is why I just started to hack everyone
in sight just to
see what you would call, and much to my surprise, I didn't get
called for
anything. That's pretty damn bold. At least I got
one hell of a free
t-shirt out of it, and let me tell you, those things are RAD.
I did have
fun too.
----TATE
P.S. Does anyone else know about Red beard,
and how horrible he is as a ref
in all sports? I think we should actually get in contact
with him, and hear
his side of the story.
(Ted's note: Thanks, Tate. Fun was the goal.)
First off i would like to thank ted for settin up this
whole thing. It was a
blast to play in. yet i would like to voice my thoughts
on the negative
feelings toward the prep. it is understandable that
people are tired of
losing to the prep in many things and thats where all this
hostility comes
from. But to say that the prep wins by default because it
rained on the
first day of competition is total and complete bull. Just
because some of
the teams were missing a couple guys doesnt mean that they
could have won
anyway. Cause the prep was missing 2 of their better
players also. I think
having the games on seperate days helped a couple of the larger
teams because
they would have been dead tired by the end of the day. So
to all the haters
out their, just relax and accept the consequences of not being
apart of the
best team ever. MALLA FALLA CHAMP!!
---- I love the prep
(Ted's note: Yeah, Prep was missing two decent players Sunday. Same
for Judge, if not more.)
In response to the people who have been asking why did I
bother playing last
Sautrday, the answer is this. I suck at basketball, I
know that, so I
decided the night before at a party at Dustin Lahiff's house
that I was going
to get myself kicked out of the game. I accomplished this and
had a good time
doing it, and the rest of my team could care less about the
game either. Im
not gonna lie, I HATE wood guys . . . This may sound cynical
but i
only feel this way towards wood guys, and lasalle too. I
met some of the
guys from other schools like bonner and they were cool cause
they didnt take
it so seriously. So, mellow out ted, and quit brown
nosing air horn guy.
---- Matt Erbele, #3, ejected and loved it!
(Ted's note: I'm fine. You're not. But that's OK. It wasn't
supposed to be
taken seriously. Hopefully, teams tried to win, but it
certainly wasn't life or
death. Why would I need to brown nose AHG?)
to all the judge guys and whoever else heard this,
I AM NOT AQUINASB, i dont care what tim doc told you
all, he just told me last night of what he informed
you. Its def not me u can check wit ted if you dont
belive me. Also i wanted to thank ted for a great
tourney, all the judge guys for doing what they
did (specially haighs move off of the prep kids
head)and just a great weekend
---- Duross #12 and the best ref around
(Ted's note: Brian is NOT aquinasb. "Quine" is an adult.
A little wacky, but still an adult. -- smile.)
Yo Bri it wasn't you who was in question
it was your dad. He obviously knows about the site since he has written in.
Being a coach and coaching against his daughter he would know Coach Fox so he could
have been at that banquet, and he probably doesn't like us from the shannagians that went
on at the Ryan Wood girls good. So he has the motive and does fit the suspect
description. Hmmm could it be
---- The other Hardy boy AKA GOOSE
(Ted's note: Once again, "Quine" is not a Duross. Not father. Not
son.)
