  With a heavy heart, we report the passing of the father of website legend Ed "Huck" Palmer . . . Ed "Huckle" Palmer. Mr. Palmer won a Purple Heart in Vietnam and was also a Philadelphia policeman. To boot, he was a longtime stalwart in the Southwest Philly Coaches Assn. First viewing: Monday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Danjolell Memorial Homes, 2811 West Chester Pike, in Broomall. Second viewing: Tuesday, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at St. Barnabas Church, 6300 Buist Ave., in SW Philly, with Mass to follow.

Very personable, and impossible not to like, Gary was a long-time football and basketball official as well as an administrator at Ben Franklin HS. RIP, Gary.   The Phillies' RBI Senior Team (ages 16 to 18) has been eliminated from the national tourney, as the result of an 8-7 loss to Chicago. They did rally from an 8-2 deficit to make things interesting. 1B Kevin Conroy (Judge '10) went 3-for-4 with two apiece of doubles, RBI and runs scored.

  The Phillies' RBI Senior Team (ages 16 to 18) has emerged from pool play as the No. 2 seed for the national tourney, in Florida. Our guys beat Tampa, 7-6, behind winning RHP Dom Raia (GAMP '11, five innings), 1B Kevin Conroy (Judge '10; double, triple, three RBI) and OF Gio Morales (SJ Prep '09; two apiece of hits, runs and steals, along with one RBI).

On wheresgeorge.com, he discovered that a location for this specific dollar bill had last been logged on June 5. A kid from Medford, NJ, noted the bill had come "from a soda machine at my dad's work." Glad that's been cleared up (smile).

Also, Steve Carcarey (formerly of K-K) is the coach of the year. Widener is bound for the NCAA tourney!
  Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of former Edison basketball star Terry Butler ('83), who passed during a recent visit home to Philly.   Twenty years ago today, former Dobbins star Eric "Hank" Gathers died during his senior season of a great career at Loyola Marymount. Hank's passing still hurts all who knew him. What a warrior!
